  good pocket pc

this pocket pc is on the lowest end of the ipaq's, but is really good considered it is that low. The only reason it is not a 5 is because it does not have built in wlan, which is terrible if you buy the wifi card because of its low memory. i wouldn't recommend buying this product if you intend to browse the internet alot. this pocket pc is good for calendar, word, excel, games, and its other features. this is also good for email.

This was a piece of JUNK!
Review created: 09/04/07
by:
11 of 16 people found this review helpful.

Nothing about this iPAQ was worth any money spent on it. It was corrupted and I was able to download some things to fix the problem but the problem reoccured and has gotten worse. When I checked with another Tech thinking that I was missing something, I was informed that the iPAQ was junk and was probably tossed out by a company that had it previously. The hardware is corrupt and the battery does not hold a charge longer than 20 minutes. A serious virus had been downloaded sometime and was never cleaned out. He recommended a total drive and memory replacement which of course renders this iPAQ absolutely useless and a piece of junk. When I looked at the sellers feedback going way back I see that this seller, greatestauctions4u has a history of selling worthless items and then blaming the buyer for not reading or understanding or not knowing what they were buying. This seller should be banned from selling as he is selling worthless junk. of course he refuses to answer any of my emails and will not reimburse me for this piece of junk.
I bought the thing for my wife who really wanted one. But now I guess I will go buy her a brand new one and will not trust any more sellers on eBay that are selling computer related material.

  Love my Ipaq Rz 1710

I have found the display colors to be vivid. The ease of use to be remarkable. It takes a sd memory card, the same as a digital camera, they are very easy to locate. The only downside i have is that the battery life is less than i would like, it is useable for a few hours and than must be recharged. It is lightweight and fits nicely into my hand. The speakers are good, i use them for games as well as music. I would recommend an Ipaq Rz 1710.

I love having the ability to carry a book with me and it doesn't take up my whole purse. I also like being able to keep pictures on SDCards to share with my children. I have a 5yr old who likes to look at pictures of family and this is very convient. Not to mention I can keep my schedule all in one place!

Its ok, but not for everybody

I bought this as a way to keep a day keeper and spread sheets at the ready. In my down time I planed on reading PDF or Ebooks on it.
1. If you have VISTA on you computer and you are just an average computer user, do not bother with this item. You will get frustrated and toss it. You have to download a different sync program because this items normal sync program does not work with VISTA.
2. Unless you have a full version of ADOBE ACROBAT you will not be able to read PDFs, You have to reset the TAGs in order to read them.
3. Not enough built in memory...but I knew that when I bought it. I planned on getting a 2 gig sd card. Which I did, and it works fine.
4. Battery life is horrible. If you do not use it much, it will last for a while, but during the day, I refer to my tasks list and set appointments often.
5. Little to no support from HP. They stop making it. the only support I could find on HP is a couple of manuals (Useless because of VISTA.) and 1 software download.
Overall: It is a great looking piece of electronics. If I were to purchase this back when it first came out, around 2002, it would have been awesome and I probably would have had more support. Unfortunately, because of the Vista operating system, new connection software and no support, I would walk away from this one, unless you know what you are doing. I will still keep it, and try to reprogram it to do something else. Oh yeah, If you are going to use this as a portable internet device, I connected it to the internet through my usp connection in my laptop and had no problems with that at all. Thinking about getting a wifi card and using it at local hot spots. Also, you can get a GPS card too. The Problem is finding them. I found a wifi card for 35 dollars. Still can't find the GPS card.

  ultra mobile computor
Review created: 04/04/09(updated 04/04/09)

This great electronic gizmo is really a computor that fits in your pocket. It functions as a word processor, email reader, mp3 player, video player, book reader as well as a great contact list and task or appointment calendar. The other thing I love is that I can hand write notes on the screen or use it as an audio recorder and can download it all to my desktop at the end of the day.
It has more than paid for itself with just the free e-books that I have downloaded, kept me entertained with games while waiting for appointments and kept my many medical appointments and medications straight as I underwent cancer treatment.
I loved it so much that when my original of over 5 years was damaged beyond repair I bought 2 more so that if one ever needed to go for servicing I would have a spare.
I am over 60 years old but don't know how I managed before I had my pocket pc.

I paid for the product on 11/24/08 through Pay Pal & didn't receive it until 12/8/08. Product held a charge for 20 - 30 minutes & shut down after an 8-hour charge. Unit did not align properly. I had to push 3 on the keyboard function to execute a 1 and that only worked occasionally. Seller told me that that it functioned properly, but finally allowed me to send back the product for another one after my third complaint. I returned it on 12/11/08, the Post Office confirmed delivery on 12/13/08, seller said they didn't receive it until 12/18/08 & would send a replacement right out & I still don't have it. I can't comment on the product because I haven't received one that works properly.

Life isn't perfect, but if a product doesn't work, a seller needs to step up and make it right and that has not happened yet. I would be happy to provide another review once this complaint is resolved

  Developer's handheld
Review created: 11/17/08

MS Visual Studio 2005 has everything needed to program the pocketPC mobile 2003SE. Great device for people who like to have access to a capable developer program. Palm pilot users have codewarrior but by the time I could afford my copy of codewarrier the IIIc I own lost all of its usefulness for lack of USB port and limited memory.

Have not found too many programming examples for the unit yet. I have an application that uses a rs232 communications port like the rz1710 has but sometimes with MS's documented interfaces pieces of the puzzle can be left out making difficult for individual programmers like myself to publish finished code.

The rz1710 has a sd memory slot not compatible with sdhc memory cards but may take a 4gb standard sd card (have not tried it yet but will work with a 2gb card).

Only problem is the lack of programs shareware/software and otherwise, seems like much more written for the palm pilot than the PPC. MS Activesync works flawlessly although can only sync with the top level contacts folder of MS Outlook. If you use subfolders like I do you have to move all your contacts to a single folder not too much of a problem, the work around I use is that I keep duplicate sets of contacts, one under their respective subfolders and one large merged folder in the default "Contacts" folder.

Should have joined in the palm pilot programming bandwagon when palm pilot came out but little hiring of programmers in area. Better late than never!

I should mention one more thing comparing it to yesterday's technology the character recognition of the rz1710 is a huge improvement over the graffiti Alphabet stuff a few years back.

purchased in Nov 2008
other PIM owned.
IIIc purchased date:unknown - still has a good battery!

  Perfect for appointments
Review created: 03/03/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I rate this excellent because it was exactly what I needed to simplify my life at work. Scheduling appointments. I didn't need to handwrite them anymore or get messed up on dates. I don't really use it for anything else. The only thing that frustrates me about it, syncing files between it and my computer. I still haven't figured it out with the software and thought I was doing it right, but can never find anthing that was backed up. I only want to back up my appointments onto my computer. Other than me still trying to figure it out, I love it. Just for future reference, there is a second way to reset/reboot your Pocket PC. you hold down the lower outer two button and poke the reset botton on the bottom at the SAME TIME and it unlocks it, if it ever gets locked up. If you do it that way, it's the same thing as setting your Pocket PC back to FACTORY SETTINGS! You will lose everything if you don't back it up.

I wanted a PDA to keep contacts and appointments in and when I saw this one for cheap I thought it would be great to try one out. Ever since I opened the package this PDA has caused me problems and would not work properly. The screen keeps going out of alignment, sometimes it won't turn on, and I constantly have to keep reseting it. The only positive thing I can say is that the seller has stayed in contact with me and tried to help me with the problems. I recently sent it back to the seller to get a different one but after dealing with that one I just want my money back. I don't want to deal with it anymore.

  HP iPAQ Pocket PC Rz1710
Review created: 02/08/07
1 of 5 people found this review helpful.

+++I bought the NewPhone 74205 three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 1M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

I needed something to keep appointments and other info where it is handy. This fills that bill very well, and also plays games and a bunch of other things which I have not figured out yet. It would have been nice if there were a owners manual with it.
