Beware HP LaserJet 4200 Fuser Film Shredding!

Hello Everyone!

Sikna says,

The problem with the HP LaserJet 4200 is in the unbeliveable bad design of the end guides in the fuser's fixing film (heating) assembly. The guides projects at a 90 deg tangent rather than following the natural curve of the film. Both end guides are like this, but for some reason the film moves and shredds toward the green knob end.

There are two solutions I have used:

You can easily disassemble your 4200 fuser and hand-file the projecting angle on the end guides so they are curved to match the shape of the internal metal guide. Just be careful and do a smooth job. You can use 600 grit automotive paper and wet sand the surface to smooth/polish it. This solution may work well long-term, but it takes at least 100K pages to know preliminary results and 200K or more to know long-term life with the 4200's plastic film sleeve.

OR FOR A SURE LONG-LIFE SOLUTION: Buy a new 4300 Fixing Film Assembly (HP Part #RM1-0103) at libertypartsteam.com

NOTE: The obvious solution to just put a 4300 fuser into your 4200 won't work due to different coding in the electrical plug.

See info on this at http://www.libertypartsteam.com/4xxx_fusers.html

But there is a way!

Remove the defective OEM HP 4200 Fixing Film Assembly and replace it with the 4300 one. It will fit and work perfectly. I have done this to my 4200 in my office. Toner is fused very strongly and it works great. Because this 4300 film has a metal sleeve and an improved guide design it will not shred early like the OEM 4200 ones.

I recently changed a 4300 fuser which had over 600,000 pages. It was not worn out, but the customer had jammed labels in it and wanted a new fuser. I would expect similar very-long life from this metal film sleeve on the 4200.

Sikna out...

The Hewlett Packard Laserjet 4200 is a very excellent printer a work horse with good quality print and very fast print speed. Repairs to this printer is very easy and parts are always available. I bought it to resell locally to my clients who needed a printer with the specifications of The Laserjet 4200.

My firm purchased a new HP LaserJet 4200 printer about two and one half years ago. At that time the cost was approximately $1,000.00 and that was a good deal. Now, two and one half years later we purchased a used HP LaserJet 4200 with about 35,000 copies on it for less than $250.00 delivered. The printer is designed to be a workhorse and to make up to 200,000 copies a month. Therefore, I would estimate the life of a typical printer to be somewhere around 5,000,000 copies. Buying one with a low copy count is like buying a car with less than 5,000 miles on it. The quality of the printing once you get by the configuration and are able to figure out how to set up commands is fantastic. My experience is that unlike computers that are always changing and being improved, the printer is built to last, will last for years and handles even the largest and most demanding of offices.

You can buy off eBay.com and save like 600 dollars off what a new one would cost. The fuser is why I'm not giving them an excellent although everything is not suppose to last forever and things normally mess up sooner or later. I own about twenty of these and have only had the fuser assemply replaced in two of them and the fuser assembly can be purchased off eBay.com for about 65 to a 100 dollars.
