I love my iPaq! I bought it primarily to keep business appointments and contacts on, however I have found so much more to do with it.

I bought the SPB Brain Evolution game which is like Brain Age for the Nintendo DS. Also, got a program that makes it work as a "trainable" universal remote control! It works on all my TVs, DVD players, stereo, air conditioner, fans, and even my laptop!

It syncs flawlessly with Outlook 2007 running on Windows Vista (you must download Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 free from Microsoft website)

The down side is it runs Windows Mobile 2002 (or 2003 if you get the upgrade which I did) which is fairly outdated and most of the newer software only works on WM 5.0+

Also I have a WiFi card for it, but it plugs in the same place as mt SD card so I have almost no storage space with the wireless card in. This isn't as big of a probl;em as I first thought it would be because most of the internet related functions are... well... useless. The only instant messenger program I have found that actually works is AIM, but I am told Agile Messenger will work ($40 is a bit steep for a IM program I feel).

Internet browsing is S L O W... really slow... even on 12mbps cable. If you are looking for something with great web function, find one running WM 6.0. If you want a nice, inexpensive, fun PDA to use as ...well a PDA, you could do alot worse than the iPaq H3950

I owned a 3850 before this and while both are very similar, the 3900 series has a far superior screen. I can walk outside in the daylight with little glare and still read the screen. It is one of the most versitle PDA's on the market with the many expansion packs most of which include an external battery. While this 3950 doesn't have bluetooth, it's easy to add with a CF/bluetooth expansion pack. The 3970 has BT intergrated but I didn't require it. I bought this for use with my Haicom CF GPS Unit. It works perfectly and after adding an SPB software suite, I still had plenty of room for GPS software on the device. I use my SD cards for my games, music, and videos. I highly recommend This paticular PDA for anyone looking for a cost effective PDA. Especially for use with GPS or in the field note taking and on the go finacial tracking!

  The super awesome Hewlett-Packard H3950
Review created: 10/31/09

This is the 2nd one I have purchased. Pocket pc's are awesome! They do everything. The reason I bought it to begin with is I love ebooks. Ebook readers are ridicoulisly expensive and usually only read one type of ebook. The pocket pc is an actual pc.. and so much more - you can use all 3 ebook reader programs, play movies, music and games, get on the internet, hook gps up to it..all kinds of things. I recomend them to everyone!! The only negative thing I have to say about them is..no more reading in the bathtub!! Hope this helps.

Hp Compaq Ipaq 3950 in the year 2009
Review created: 08/03/09(updated 08/03/09)

Hi,
This review will be for today users.(2009 not for 2003 users)

Good qualities of this PDA:
-------------------------------------------
Large screen! Good quality screen. OK touch screen.
Long battery life (uses auto sleep mode).
Nice windows mobile, useful.
Very fast wake up and restart.
Can use excel and word In an Ok way.
Good calender to set your appointments and tasks.
Nice arcade games.
Fast Intel processor.
Records voice and saves for play back (nice practical button at the side).
You can get a refurbished one for less than 70$ (Aug 2008).

It is Compaq .

Problems or faults:
---------------------
The WI FI: a. needs an external card.
b. needs network to be set up before using it.
WIFI is not practical outside your home/office.

If battery goes dead all memory and data is lost!!!!!
(You can back it up on your computer of course but you need to do it previously).

Very small memory. 64 RAM 32 ROM. (but on the other hand I did not have any problems with this feature but heavy users might have).

You need to get familiar with software in order to install new stuff not trivial.(Like micro keyboard, expansion pack, new software etc)

Good for:
---------

People who only need it to set meetings use Excel,Word and do minimal stuff in a good way.
New users of PDA's.
People on low budget.
People who don't really need the internet on their PDA or want to use it only in known locations.

The END
*-----------------*
70$ for this wonderful Item is just a great deal....
On the other hand for today users it offers too little...
So if you are not a heavy user this just might be enough.
I opened up a small business, and for the time being it is enough for what I need now.

This had everthing in it I was looking for. The price was very reasonable and the seller was very specific about the amenities in it and about it. It is easily upgradeable too. (something everyone needs from time to time, lol.) The product is awesome, (due to my own research), it can do most anything a laptop computer can do, (without the lugging around of wires, cables, accessories, etc...) It' all in the name COMPAQ!!! (compact to you and me:))

  Handles the basic needs
Review created: 02/23/09

From the well known line of iPaq it is a compact handy little machine. Basic feature are all good, but it lacks the wifi feature. The standard SD slot is handy and if you have a SDio card you are all set. The color screen is clear and easy for many functions. The weight is a plus and minus as the slick body and the clumsy big hands will find it a challenge. All in all this is a good machine and might be better if the expansion option were readily available. The battery life would be fine for most folks with lite use, but a little limited if you do like to surf on it.

I mainly purchased this for the ability to keep all of my contacts and appointments in one small neat device. I also wanted to have books on it to read while waiting for a doctor appointment or something like that. I was unable to load Adobe Reader successfully after several attempts. I do have Microsoft reader on it which I am quite happy with. So, all in all, I think it is very handy to have, but very disappointed that it would not load properly for the other software.

  Still useable !
Review created: 05/11/08

A few years old, but still a very functional handheld alternative to a full system, especially with the addition of some freeware available on the Internet. Movies are watchable (using a memory card) - novels readable - add a wireless card and web browsing & email, eBay bidding, and PayPal payment are all possible. If using Activesync, it is even possible to access the Internet from the device through your computer - handy for checking email, etc. if someone else is on the main computer. The voice recorder is great for quick messages - and writing freehand notes eliminates the "lost slip of paper" syndrome.
Caveats include using care inserting/removing SD cards -- probably the weakest point of the device. Also, when in a case, the "quick" buttons sometimes turn the device on if bumped accidentally.
Battery life seems to be 4-6 hours depending on use (with a new battery)... Dimming the backlight helped and the screen was still sufficiently bright to work.
All in all, not a perfect alternative to a full computer, but extraordinarily convenient. Well worth the investment.

The item works great. I primarily purchased the item to use as a universal remote control for my home theater. It works flawlessly for this task and I also occasionaly use it for it's calender appointment feature and listing contacts.

All in all a great buy for the price.
