I have been using the HP 17 Tri-Color ink cartridges for several years in my HP 840 printer. The colors are bright and true and seems to last a long time. I tend to use one color more than the other two and have found it is very easy to refill just that one color. I have the best results with Stratitec ink for the refills.
I now purchase all of my NIB HP 17 ink cartridges from eBay sellers and have had very good experience with them even when they are outdated. Only once did I have a problem when only blue printed from a NIB outdated cartridge. Setting the cartridge on a damp paper towel for a few minutes solved that problem.
