The reason I bought this item was because of it's great low price. After receiving it and installing it into my printer I found that I would have rather paid a bit more for the ink. I quickly found out that "expired" ink DOES NOT print with any quality what so ever. I did not know this at the time of purchasing it so I took the chance. So, from now on and to whoever reads this review I HIGHLY suggest not to purchase expired ink!

If your printer uses HP 23 you have little choice, buy genuine or buy refurbished. However "genuine" and "brand new" do not tell the whole story. Some sellers state that their cartridges (5-6 years old perhaps) "should work 100%." Some guarantee to replace or refund them if they don't work. That is not particularly an option with me; I want my stock to work when opened, not several days later after being replaced. I have found after using many dozens of outdated HP 23s that eventually the printhead dries out before opening. Then one or more colors will not print, even with priming. Wetting the head may open it up but usually cross-contaminates the colors. HP warrants for 6 months beyond the "install-by" date. My experience is up to a year, never a problem. Between one and two years past date, incidence of bad ones gradually increases to about one third bad. After two years, probability gets worse, to about two thirds bad. And so on. I have NEVER found one that worked properly, in factory sealed box, over four years past date. Now, storage conditions obviously have an effect but I have no control over the old-stock cartridges I buy. I have noted that cartridges OUT-OF-BOX (with tape intact on head) tend to go downhill faster than those in the box. Probably because of greater evaporation rate through the film-only than through the film-and-box. Theoretically a fairly high humidity (i.e. above 50% RH) at a low temperature, i.e. below 60F, would be ideal. Those conditions are met in YOUR REFRIGERATOR. Not the freezer though. Personally I have not experimented with that; I buy only in-date or near-date ones and use them within about a year of box date.

Although full of ink, this unit only prints in one color. It may be because HP rigs them to stop functioning by a certain date.

I found that the date on the package needs to be heeded. The two that I bought were dry as a popcorn fart. Learn from your mistakes.

Only the original HP cartridges ever really work right. I've tried the 3rd party re-manufactured ones and they just don't work the same. Buy original HP.

Beware of expired dates, and those appearing with 'stock' photos of containers. I received one that was just in a card board box, unsealed and showed signs of use, as the tape that covers the bottom, being loose.

I Questioned seller before use, if this was a refilled container, which of course was denied. Upon installing in my printer, I discovered my initial doubt was well founded! Everything I printed using this ink was red! There are unscruplous sellers passing their used cartridges as authentic product! Nothing at all to do with HP expiration dates. Only purchase products with less than a year expiration date, always question sellers as to packaging to make sure that it is in a sealed HP pagkage. Don't take a picture of the package as proof of packaging, Question Sellers about expiration date and unopened packaging ALWAYS!

An inexpensive price does not constitute a good product. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! I share with you wisdom through painful experience.

For the money you can't go wrong with expired cartridges, most of the times they work as good as newly manufactured ones, and if the price is right I keep on buying them for spare...

This is a color ink cartridge that our HP printer uses. We had to replace it. It is the only color cartridge for this printer.

I purchased the item as described and it was shipped quickly. The pricing was good and shipping was reasonable. Feedback on seller was good and the auction included PayPal protection.

The ink cartridge was received promptly and immediately installed. Even though the product had exceeded its expiraion date, it functioned very well. I am very satisfied with the product.

I had priced this item at Wal-Mart and then found it on E-Bay for a fraction of the cost. Obviously the price was what I liked best about this item.

I was hesitant about buying an ink cartridge past its expiration date because of the bad experiences I have had with milk. The price for a new cartridge is very high when compared to the expired one, so I took a chance. This cartridge was a little past a year of its expiration date but it is working like it was new. This cartridge was sealed in its original box and I would only buy one that way. Once it is taken out of the box or foil pouch who knows what was done to it. For all I know it could of been used for face painting. HP makes dependable products so from now on I will satisfy my ink cartidge needs with the expired cartridges on ebay.

Genunine HP ink tends to me more reliable (fewer cases of DOA product) than
remanufactured replacements.

I have purchased several genuine HP ink cartridges on auction. I have never had a problem with any of them. Even the ones that were a year or two out of date have always worked great. You simply can't beat the price!

Just what I wanted and they came fast service was excellent would do business with this seller any time.

Their were too many magenta colors in the overall quality of the cartridge. Everything or mostly everything that I print has a pinkish color to it. I hope that I did'nt misunderstand what the colors should or were suppose to be. Because I was under the impression that the colors were going to be the normal colors that you find in an HPC1823
