Heroes of the Pacific (PlayStation 2, 2005)

This game is really sweet. I was worried it'd be hard to
fly the plane like in some Flight sims, or that it would be too easy like Ace Combat. It was neither!

The flying takes about half an hour to get used to, but then it's awesome. (This is in expert mode -- there is also an arcade mode for more simplified flying).

The game is challenging, and the only complaint I can think of is that it's really hard to see the planes you're trying to shoot down. You can target them which makes it easier, but that will only bring up a yellow arrow on the one you are going for. In a situation when there are like 50 enemy planes its hard to tell who's who, or let alone see any of the other planes that just look like black specks zooming around.

Overall it's a really fun game though, and definitly worth the trouble in finding it!

I purcahsed Heroes of the Pacific after I had already played Secret Weapons Over Normandy (which is one of the best flying games around), so my expectations may have been a little high. Here's the "Cliff's Notes" review:

Likes:
-Storyline - Takes you to some of the best aerial engagements of WWII
-Mission # - Anyone who has played a WWII game is fearful of an expensive game with few missions, this game does not disappoint in that category
-In game graphics & Sound - Very realistic environment, and even the enemy planes/ships are detailed

Dislikes:
-Menus - The plane selection menus and pre-mission "option" menus don't provide many options for plane modification
-Music - Don't expect anything beautiful from this game, all synthesized "American" sounding music
-Gameplay - VERY hard to control plane if you stall, there is a low ceiling for flight (3200ft), but on the other hand, targeting for the plane is quite good
-Dialogue - English that appeared to be written by a non-English speaker, or a person who is not a native English speaker, just a little picky quirk with me

Overall a good game with areas that could have been cleaned up a bit. For the genre, though, a good buy.

I have this game and want to write a comment on it.

Having played Secret Weapons Over Normandy, as well as Ace Combat o4, I wanted to get my hands on another World War Two Flight War game. Having enjoyed the Me 262/b-17 ball turret level of S.W.O.N.; Heroes of the Pacific as raised the bar.

Heroes of the Pacific has a semi- simulation element with the Professional flight character, as well as a more easy to master arcade option. If you want to get more
of the sensation of how it was to think about flying as well as thinking about how
to shot zeros in a dynamic dog fight at the same time, I recommend starting and staying with the professional flight option.

One other aspect of the game I like, is the general graphic arts style used for selections, game options screens; they used a 1940s war propaganda style, hand write signs and patriotic war illustrations, it seems like a obvious choice and it is.

I respect the restraint they expressed by keeping the game play the side of historical, gaming companies must realize, there are a number of people who want a historical loyal , yet entertaining play; and stay away from blaster style of game play as that sort of game can be found may other places; people who want to get a glimpse of the world war two experience, can do it here with Heroes of the Pacific

But you have to play the more aerodyamical realistic professional mode!

this is an excelent game. you can do almost everything in it. you can select more than 150 types of airplanes, you get to fly many timesof airplanes and battle many of the historic wars like pearl harbor. i decided to buy this game because i love airplanes and this was the right game for me. As flight sims go, this game has been a great find. I am fairly new to the PS2 gaming system and I enjoy the flight sims I do have. This has been a new addition to my Ace Combat series I have begun to collect and fly. It would be nice if I had a joy stick and could make flying more realistic.

It has great graphics and a large selection of planes you can choose from.I got this game because i love fighter planes.

Why I love the game. It's fun, adventures, and a great shoot'em up bang bang game. I recommend the game if you like piolting aircraft. It's a tough game even on the easy level. Sometimes it will get you mad. Over all it has great graphics and it is easy to fly the planes around once you get use to the way it flies. Take it for a spin sometime.

i got this great history lessons, great fun, the player can feel a part of the game.i give this wonderfully put together game on a scale from one to ten an eleven. this game is for the whole family. you can learn so much from the footage. thank you it is great doing business with you.

If you found the title of this review offensive, you may want to pass by this game. Or mute it. Racial slurs aside, this is one HELL of a WWII fighter game. Using the analog sticks to controll the planes roll, throtle, pitch and rudders feels natural, but may not be verry user freindly. Its a hard game to master, but an awesome one once you do. The graghics can differ from eww to wow, but the flying is superb. Great for any ace who likes to fly AND shoot. ~E

My 10-year old son recently declared he hates history because it is boring. Shortly after that the History Channel started showing their "Dogfights" series and he became interested in the series. I bought this game in hopes that it might open up his mind about history and it certainly has; he now realizes that history isn't just about a bunch of dead people, they did real, live things. I could have talked to him until I was blue in the face and he would never have changed his mind. He now even sits and watches "Engineering an Empire" and has really enjoyed most of those segments.

I have to say this is an excellent game. A bit tricky to get the different planes mastered, but that just makes the game that much more realistic. So far, I'm only in the rookie mode. There are three higher levels in case it seems too easy for you as is. I would strongly suggest any war game buff to purchase this game. Look on Ebay, you could probably get it for less than $20. Have fun!

This game is pretty hard to control. The graphics are good but gameplay is pretty unforgiving. It takes alot of practice to learn how to fly the planes correctly. You are very limited to the types of planes also when you first start. Historically this is a very good storyline. I would recommend this game if you are a WW2 buff like me. But dont spend more than $20 for it. Ebay if the best way to go to purchase this one. I am satisfied with the purchase of this game, but if you are not into these history games, maybe you should rent it first.

The game has wonderful and detailed graphics. You can play the controls acrcade style or pro style which makes it simpler for us older less coordinated folks! The best part is that it's a differet style of the majority of games out there. Great story line, several play options. A must have.

Good game, but a little bit difficult.
It´s a great challenge for player that like air battles.
The flight simulation is good, but the options are not very complete.
I´d like that the explanation of the levels could be better because sometimes you don´t know what to do.

bought the Playstation 2 game heroes of the pacific three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on the graphic. It has different scenarios and actual location of the real war. My only complaint is that is hard to complete stages, and to manuever. Overall, I'd recommend the game if you're on a budget. You're into battle game

well there are not many games that allow you to fly these types of aircraft and dog fight, dive bomb, and torpedo. all and all this is a fun game . highly recomended

This game is an excellent combat flight sim. The missions are challenging, yet not so difficult you can't get thru it. A game for all you WWII fans...
