In Her Shoes (DVD, 2006, Rental Ready)

Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz, and last but not least, Shirley Maclaine star in this movie about life, love, and family. Toni Collette plays Rose who is a lawyer whose life is filled with disappointment in the relationship department. To make up for the things she misses she over-indulges in Haagen-Dazs and gorgeous shoes that she doesn't wear. Cameron Diaz plays Maggie, her alter-ego and sister who is fabulously gorgeous, can have any man she wants (and sometimes does), but has no job and no real career to speak of. Rose and Maggie have a love-hate relationship. Due to their mother dying when they were young Rose and Maggie really only have each other. Rose loves Maggie but hates that she cannot seem to control her drinking, partying, or ability to keep a job. In addition Maggie has a heartbreaking problem with reading that both keeps her career or education from going any further and also makes her not want to try. Things reach a breaking point when Maggie has nowhere to stay. She can't stay with Rose because she slept with Rose's possible boyfriend and boss. She can't go home because her witch of a step-mom will not allow it so Maggie goes to her parents home to steal some money or something worth selling. In her search for valuables she finds years of letters and cards(filled with money) from a grandmother they didn't know existed. Maggie goes to the grandmother in Florida hoping for a free ride but instead discovers herself, her true talents, learns to read and finds real family outside of Rose.

While Maggie is gone Rose finds a real man who loves her for who she is. He wants to get married but Rose will not do it until she finds Maggie. In finding Maggie and putting the past behind them all three women find a peace they've never had. Rose gets married and we hope it is happily ever after for all involved.

I laughed and cried with this movie. I enjoyed it thoroughly! My husband says it is a 'chick flick' but was an okay 'chick flick'.
