Something different from an average action film

It should be said that there are probably a dozen similar films, though this is a good entry in the genre. A decent B+ sort of action film. It is an interesting cross between ‘bad guys after the president on a plane’ and ‘Arnold kills bad guys in the jungle.’ Except this film is different in that the Rambo-type is a she (Hemingway) and the film centers on the VICE president (an odd touch I suppose). After ending up LOST on an island full of killers, a secret service agent (Hemingway) must protect the V.P (David Keith), who seems to be ex-army himself and can handle a gun pretty well. Hemingway is quite believable as the action hero, she does it quite well, and the main action plot, while not too imaginative, is enough to keep you interested if, like me, you like Commando or Predator. Keith as the VP is also much better than you would expect, and just for the job that those two do in an otherwise B+ film, it’s worth a look. The hook in this film is that it is supposed to be a ‘gay’ story. Where in the standard Hollywood film there would be a romantic sub-plot between Keith and Hemingway, this time it’s between Hemingway and a female assistant to the VP. As a story goes, this one has potential, but unfortunately it never really gets off the ground (other than you know there is attraction there). Don’t look for anything provocative, political, or even steamy (well the last maybe just a tiny bit). As sub-plots go, this is so soft-pedaled as to be mostly just a whisper. On the whole, though, something different from your run-of-the-mill action films.
