Album Notes
Thompson was still in his teens when he helped define British folk-rock in the '60s as the thinking man's guitar hero in Fairport Convention. He was still a young man when he stepped out for his 1972 debut as a solo singer-songwriter. An auspicious beginning, HENRY THE HUMAN FLY is a fully realized work full of strong compositions and inspired performances. It's simultaneously Thompson's most traditionally folkie and most gleefully eccentric solo effort, as he was just beginning to give voice to the various elements of his eclectic vision. Guests from Thompson's extended folk-rock family like Sandy Denny, Ashley Hutchings and Barry Dransfield provide an agreeable sonic link to the recent Fairport past without tying Thompson to his past glories.

4 stars out of 5 - Thompson sounds like a man convinced that a Stratocaster might just save English folk...
Mojo

[Thompson's voice] suits the loose, raggle-taggle mood of HENRY, whose line-up is a who's who of folk rock at the time...
