I've always been a fan of Alex Acuña. It's our pride and joy for all peruvian drummers and percussionists. This features him with awesome beats, solos, fussioned styles, etc. Great combination with Puerto Rican-percussionist Manolo Badrena. This features a live track from the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 1976, a drums-percussion solo with Acuña-Badrena just destroying the drums in only two minutes!
Jaco Pastorius was a true genius! God bless his soul. That guy was amazing on fretless bass. And he was only 26 years old in this recording! You won't believe your ears! The album is full of his blazing on the bass with solos! It also features him in the drums on "Teen town"! "Palladium" (one of my favorites), features him also in the steel drums for the final part. Simply incredible Pastorius.
Wayne Shorter, what can I say! His name says it all! Awesome saxophone player, superb composer! And Zawinul, Joe Zawinul! "Birland" is a classic for every jazz musician. But he has some other very good tunes, "A remark you made" is beautiful, melodic, great harmonies; it takes me somewhere else everytime I listen to it! The keyboard solo there is amazing! Not exagerating, amazing!
This is album is great even if you don't listen to jazz that much. The songs are not long and boring. They are pretty short, under 3 or 4 minutes, radio-friendly, easy to listen and enjoy!
A great album! The best Weather Report album ever! A total and absolute classic of fussion jazz! A must-have for every musician!
