Heavy Metal (DVD, 1999, Collector's Series)

I don't think I was old enough to see a rated R movie when Heavy Metal was first released, but I can sure remember having to buy the cassette over and over and over because I would play it until it was stretched and worn beyond use.

Once it was released on VHS, I did the same thing to THAT tape - and had to buy it several times. FINALLY, I have both the movie and the soundtrack on disk, and I couldn't be happier. This movie hasn't aged a day since its release. Yes, there are slightly hokey moments - mostly in the wrap-around story - but overall, this is a highly absorbing and entertaining collection of animated short stories reflective of the publication that inspired it.

Most of the artwork is simply spectacular, and you quickly find yourself so engaged, you don't ever stop to think about the fact that it is animated and not real. A KICKIN' soundtrack featuring some of the greatest rockers of all-time makes it all the more absorbing and dynamic.

Heavy Metal is not just an animated flick with a great soundtrack. It's a journey. It's an experience in the quiet, strange places we rarely visit in our own minds. Beautiful and horrifying. Shocking and compelling. It's like a stream-of-consciousness download of one's subconscious mind, laid right out in plain view on film for all to see.

This DVD is a classic!! It is a must have for all movie buffs!! I know the graphics are not as good as they are today but for its time it was a revolutionary movie!! The story line is great and the music is awesome!! The soundtrack still runs about $20!! This is one of my favorite movies in my collection!!!

I saw this movie when it first appeared in theaters and was struck by its unique graphics (for the day) and great sound track and story line. This is a movie for those that enjoy or enjoyed the great times of the late 60's and early 70's. Would not mean a thing to the kids of the last 10 or 20 years. This deluxe version has scenes and music not in the original theater release. Buy it if your over 40!

The plot revolves around a mysterious green jewel called the Loc Nar which corners a terrified young girl at the film's beginning. We learn that this Loc Nar is the sum of all evil as it recounts seven tales to this girl

cult classic scifi animation,with voice overs from some familiar famous people, outstanding sound track performed by some great bands.

This is an awesome movie. If you are a music fan, it's a must see! Happy to have finally found it on DVD.

I LOVE this movie. If you are a rocker, you will too. The music is incredible! I've had it on VHS for a long time, but wanted to pick up the DVD.

This was ground breaking animation for the 80s! Adult themed cartoons with the satirical SCI-FI edge that Heavy Metal was famous for.The great music and the voice talents of such stars as John Candy really put this one over the top. A must see for any animation fan as this film is definitely ahead of it's time!

this is a classic rock/fantasy production, great soundtrack and a wild ride! the updated version has cleaned up the sound and picture.

awesome storyline, great characters and acting. intriguing storylines, a pioneer in animation perfect for animation enthusiasts a great cult classic.

A classic, well told, very creative story that most adults should be able to enjoy or take something away from, the animation isn't the best but the stories are interesting and keep you entertained. All in all a decent movie.

Recently purchased the "heavy Metal DVD", remember watching the movie years ago, but never seem to be able to catch it on television. The adult rated animated rock and roll movie was everything I remembered. Now older and not as easily persuaded, THIS MOVIE STILL HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR A DELIGHTFUL EVENING AT HOME! I went to see this with my cousin when I was 12 at a local theater in Miami when it first came out. The DVD transfer is much better and crisp! Great movie and funny stories with lots of language,sexy women with flower shaped nipples, stoner aliens, and flesh eating zombies!!! An animated movies lovers dream! You gotta own this one!!!!

One of the best animated flicks out there. The typical good vs evil. Great story, even better music. Don't miss this one.

Not only do you get the film itself but you also get the feature length rough cut complete with commentary but also a reading of the original book on the making of the film by the actual author.

This movie is meant to be watched by a mature audience. There is some nudity and alot of sexual inuendo mixed in with drugs and, what else, rock n roll. It's a cult classic, animated version. Several small stories linked together by one evil object. Fun and enjoyable.

Fantastic soundtrack, animation is great. This is one of the best cartoon like movies. Not for the kiddies though. A little to bloody and the nudity probably isn't the best for the little ones. The only other thing is don't try and make any sense of it, it is a movie made from a comic book.

Heavy Metal tops the list artistically and through a hard hitting soundtrack...

Excellent old school animation, classic heavy metal tunes, and big beautiful cartoon breasts make this a classic sci-fi hit. I can't say enough about how great this movie is but I am too lazy to continue this review. Simply put, this is one of the movies you MUST SEE before you die.

If you are a lover of Rock and Roll from he 70's & 80'S and like cartoons....then this Movie is for you! This has been a huge favorite of mine for over 25 yrs.It was the first of its kind and will forever remain a classic favorite.
