Album Notes Personnel: Heavy D, Cee-Lo, Chico DeBarge, Big Pun, Eightball (vocals); Warren Campbell (various instruments); Jake Carter (guitar); El DeBarge (organ); Tony Dofat (keyboards, drum programming); Felicia Adams, Hadmira Leacock, Keanna Henson, Glaze, Talia K. Coles, Jacelyn Tejwani, Charlotte Gibson (background vocals). Producers: Heavy D, Tony Dofat, Erick Sermon, Q-Tip, Jay Dee. Recorded at Funk House & the Hit Factory, New York, New York; Larrabee West, West Hollywood, California. The Overweight Love is in the house once again. This is Heavy D's seventh album, and he shows no signs of wear. Tony Dofat and Heavy himself produced most of the album except for a few tracks that feature guest producers, including head-nodders from Jay Dee and Q-Tip ("Listen") and Erik Sermon ("You Nasty Hev"). Packed with collaborations from top-flight rappers like Big Pun and Eightball ("On Point"), Cee-Lo from the Goodie Mob ("You Know") and others, HEAVY is certainly Hev's most dynamic and mature album to date. One of the most impressive tracks is "Ask Heaven," Produced by Sermon, the song is Heavy's way of coming to terms with the experience of losing both of his brothers. The massive one always had a way with a sample, as exemplified here by "Don't Stop," which uses a cool Bob James sample of "Look Alike". This album lives up to both expectations and its title.
