Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino, Million Dollar Baby, Absolute Power, Unforgiven,
etc) plays a tough as nails marine sargeant named Tom Highway, who has got
his work cut out for himself when he is assigned to whip a platoon of
unruly recon Marines into shape. He faces his own personal problems also,
when he finds his wife played by Marsha Mason ( The Goodby Girl, Nick of
Time, Tv series FRASER seasons 4 & 5) works near the base he is assigned too.
He also encounters a by-the -book commander and a platoon leading lietentant
that has no experience at all. Still he manages to train his troops and
command their respect - lessons that are put to use when the Grenada
invasion suddenly brings the platoon into battle. The movie is also
directed by Eastwood, who has done great in that role ( Changeling, Gran
Torino, Unforgiven all self-directed). His work in that position in this
movie is a bit below par though, as the combat scenes are not top notch.
Still a very entertaining movie that war movie lovers will enjoy as well
as devotees of action & adventure also to some extent. Good enough for
a good nights entertainment certainly for most people.

) My son recently saw Grand Toreno, and wanted to know what other movies did Clint Eastwood have a role in. I am a former US Marine, and I told him that I had a movie for him. Unfortunately all of the "BIG" movie rental store do not carry a huge variety of older movies. I checked out E-Bay, purchased this movie on DVD, new condition. The DVD was great to watch, excellent purchase. Clint Eastwood is an icon, and thanks to E-Bay we can catch the old movies that we grew up on.

with more Medals and Ribbons than most he served in Korea and Vietnam with honors but with out a war he is bored and drinks far too much~ still attracted to his feisty Ex Wife (Marcia Mason). THIS ONE IS PLAYED WITH HUMOR~ From his run in with out landish Mario Van Peebles~ he makes men from the new recruits~ the fun is watching YOUTH go head to head with EXPERIENCE and come up short. this one moves along nicely mostly due to Eastwoods deadpan /dead on look at this man who is happiest in battle. I GIVE IT A FULL 9 OUT OF 10 FOR EASTWOOD at his best~ good plot and some military humor which I am sure is close to real life~ ALSO TRY IN THE LINE OF FIRE~

Heartbreak Ridge is a 1986 war film, starring Clint Eastwood (who also produced and directed) and Mario Van Peebles, about the 1983 U.S. invasion of Grenada, West Indies. A portion of the movie was filmed on the island itself.
The title comes from the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge in the Korean War. The character played by Eastwood, Gunnery Sergeant Thomas "Gunny" Highway, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions there.

This movie showed the great leadership of Clint Eastwood. My son and I loved the zingers that Clint Eastwood would give those who had a response to him, examples are the jail sceen and the bar sceen. I thought this was Clint Eastwood at his best. The product was in great shape and we love it.

Clint Eastwood Heartbreak RidgeWhat has to be said...it's Clint. I wore out my VHS tape. DVD was a no brainer to replace this classic Eastwood flick. You get a little of everything but a monkey in this film. I highly recommend and now let me go watch it again.

Heartbreak RidgeCasual comedy of a serious situation. More funny than the actual experiences incurred during that time, some rather terrible acting when it came to the confrontations as the actors appeared more intent on shooting the sky than the enemy in front of them. Rather bad shots missing more than hitting and considering these were supposed to be elite forces I was disappointed in this aspect, not realizing years back when I first viewed the flick just how bad their aim was. Other than that it was indeed a very entertaining movie giving a personal side to the life of a retiring old geezer that took serious what the meaning of war is. He takes a group of otherwise happless jarheads (God bless them ALL!) and turns them into a machine that can do what needs to be done. The movie shows what needs to be done in times of terrorist activity and why we need to have a fighting force ready at all times, unlike what the new Commander in Chief feels is necessary for the survival of the USA. Not trying to be too political but if the new CIC has his way the ragtag group shown in the beginning will be what goes to war rather than what Clint forges them into by the end of the movie. Many funny scenes, some bit of drama inserted as his past comes screcching into his life again and the whole story ends on a good 'evil falls and good reigns supreme' ending, making one want to say GOD BLESS AMERICA!

One of my husband's favorite movies and we only had it on VHS so I ordered it for a Christmas present. Unlike Eastwood, the seller didn't deliver!!!!! Nevertheless, it's a great "Hoo Yah" movie; shows the tenacity, integrity, and no BS attitude of a Marine!!!! I think you have to be of the baby boomer generation or older to appreciate it! I've been a fan of Eastwood's since he started on tv as Rowdy Yates!! I'll be trying to purchase it again from a different seller as soon as I get my refund!

I bought this movie because of Clint Eastwood. The movie started out on the right track, then became a comedy. I do not think the Title of the movie has any relevance on the final outcome, and how predictable it was. A no brainer.

one of the movies of my youth, when cgi wasn't as overused and dialogue was key, great funny movie, with clint giving a convincing performance as gunny highway, great scenes and one liners, on par with commando's, another 80s movie not as critically acclaimed but showing the timing these actors possessed at the top of their games, something sorely lacking in today's versions....

Some classic lines and a pretty fair movie.Heartbreak Ridge is loosely based on actual events; although in real life, Recon Marines were not involved. The story goes the U.S.Army would not sign off on it due to the script's poetic license in straying far from some truths. I can respect that. This is still a pretty decent film. The interaction between Clint Eastwood and Mario Van Peebles is priceless. I had one of those once; but he had no musical talent, just lived to aggrevate his sergeant.
Disregard the fact that director and writer present the Marines as if they had never been through basic training, that if you bunch up in combat you're dead, that a 40 mike mike can ruin anyone's day, and that the Congressional Medal of Honor deserves a salute from all military personnel.

He's as salty as they come and as a good sergeant, he turns a group of brats into Marines. He also has issues concerning an ex wife to work through. There are several light moments and a couple classic lines. Barracks talk is at a minimum. I had this on VHS and had to have it on DVD, so it has been watched more than a couple times.
If you like Clint Eastwood, you should like this film. If not for the writers' too vivid imagination in spots and breaks from the reality of combat, it would have earned an "excellent" rating from me.

Classic Eastwood at his best. The movie shows what happens when guide lines are relaxed. In this case a group of Marines forgot the basics, EastWood is the new Gunnie in charge. Movie also has romance and fireworks.
