I made it through, But my Sense of Humour Is Now Broken

With all do respect to the script writers and the many other people that come up with funny movies. There are things that you can really laugh at and there are things that are just plain gross.

Well, this was one of those movies that you just think that the most uncouth comedian minds in the world get together and throw everything in including the kitchen sink.

I will say that there are a few good lines of conversation that go on between the brothers that are memorable and hilarious, but the rest of the movie was extremely painful to watch. Ben Stiller called his brother in one scene and the brother said "Look you want to know the secret to a happy marriage? Plaster on a fake smile, Plow through the next half century, sit back, relax, and wait for the sweet embrace of death".

I have trouble feeling sympathetic for Ben Stiller's character even after he spends 6 months trying to get back across the border.

The ending was so lame and morally reprehensible that I couldn't believe they even brought his girlfriend back into the end of the film.

Ben always plays semi-neurotic, anxious, and totally disfunctional characters probably very well because he is so good at it. I'm not saying that this character doesn't have real problems but he should have seen it coming much sooner than on his honeymoon.

If I hadn't been so bored, I probably would have not watched this however, usually, if I buy a movie to watch and turn around and sell it beforehand, then I often feel like I wasted my money, so I wind up feeling obligated to watch it. But, this time, I'm really sorry that I even started this one.

On the laugh index I'd say about 5 small chuckles every 20 minutes or so.

This film get a mere 2/5 just because it has a few funny uncomfortable moments.

Oh my! What a disappointment! I am a big Ben Stiller fan, but I thought this was his worst movie yet. This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen! Stiller did what he could with what he was given- the script was horrible! A totally boring plot, relying on 14 year old adolescent humor and an otherwise predictable story line. Generally misogynistic.

  HD DVD AT ITS BEST!
Review created: 09/10/09

SEEN THE MOVIE FULL SCREEN. VERY WELL DONE WITH HIGH QUALITY FILM. GREAT SHOTS
OF THE BAY AREA (left coast). THE RESORT IN MEXCIO BY THE SEA SIDE IS A FIVE
STAR PLACE YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK FOR THE NEXT VACATION.
WITH ALL THE OUTDOOR SCENES IN THE MOVIE I KNEW IT WOULD LOOK GREAT IN WIDESCREEN ALONG WITH TOSHIBA HD DVD AND I WOULD SAY THE BEST OF THE HD FORMAT.

The picture is outstanding output (1080i) - HD DVD and the sound is also amazing with DTS 5.1 audio setting. However, it is NOT FUNNY movies. there are some gags sexual, and I could not watch this movie with my family

It would be traditionally cliche and predictable but whoever wrote this script really made some of the weirdest turns at places I'd never expect. Ok.. so getting over that I can't help but think Stiller is playing Gaylord Focker in Meet the Parents all over again. The Camerian Diaz look alike doesn't help contract that same statement from There's something about Mary. Bottom line is this one's cooky but alright, I'd just rather watch Meet the Parents first.

Rented this movie and in spite of the gratuitous sex, found it very funny and entertaining. Liked it enough I wanted to own it... fairly uncommon for me.

  The Heartbreak Kid HD DVD

Good film, I really good laugh. Ben Stiller is very funny. Nevertheless, some gags are too sexual, and I could not watch this movie with my family (children are too small).

Moreover, this HD DVD has a very good image quality.
One regret : I am french then I preferred a French soundtrack made in France, not a dubbing in Quebec.

Friendship for American continent.

Philippe

Maybe not for everyone, but I loved it.

Ben and Jerry Stiller give great performances in this crude comedy. "Just one question, Are you crushin..." still cracks me up. If you're easily offended this movie may not be for you. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because the picture seems not as crisp as some other HD DVDs. But still a great movie.
