Album Notes Eagles Of Death Metal: Jesse Hughes (vocals, guitar, percussion); Joshua Homme (guitars, slide guitar, piano, bass guitar, drums, percussion, background vocals). Personnel: Kim Martinelli, The Dream Boys, Brody Dalle (vocals); Dave Catching (guitars, bass guitar); Tony Bevilaqua, Alain Johannes (horns); Brian O'Conner (bass guitar); Sharlotte Gibson, Nayana Smith, The Eagle'ettes (background vocals). Recording information: Pink Duck Studios, Burbank, CA. From their goofy name to singer Jesse "The Devil" Hughes's porno mustache, Eagles of Death Metal looked like a trifle. Three albums in, however, the band has emerged as a relentlessly fun sex-rock vehicle. HEART ON keeps the party going, slicking their desert trash blues with ZZ Top beats without neglecting the "Eagles" part of their name. Boozy country rock like "How Can a Man With So Many Friends Feel So All Alone" and "Now I'm a Fool" come off like a fuzzed-out version of their famous namesake. "WannaBe In L.A." is the perfect example of their style, however. Casually debauched, breezy, and propulsive, it sounds like a pair of cheap sunglasses.
Editorial Reviews 4 stars out of 5 -- [They] wrangle an extensive posse to raise some hell again. HEART ON is decidedly less lo-fi than previous releases, but the boys don't travel far from their amphetamine-fueled, blues-based, hand-clapping signature sound. Clash
3 stars out of 5 -- [The music] has evolved from knockabout, garage-y origins to this third album's more expansive, and potent, Peaches-meets-STICKY-FINGERS aesthetic. Q
Chugging riffs and falsetto vocals abound on these 12 tracks... Magnet
3 stars out of 5 -- The title rack and 'Prissy Prancin' flaunt some of EODM's best assets: Booty shakin' grooves topped with loud, grimy guitars. Alternative Press
4 stars out of 5 -- HEART ON vaults right over, taking flight on an updraft of woozy audacity and shuddering riffs. Spin
4 stars out of 5 -- On their third album, the duo are as danceable as ever, but they've tiptoed away from straight musical pastiche, crudding up their blues boogie with low-fi fuzziness and odd-ball percussion. Rolling Stone
