Smith was one of the first Christian rock/pop artists to achieve widespread success with a mainstream secular audience. HEALING RAIN is one of his most accessible offerings, combining the pure pop melodic flair of Vertical Horizon and Matchbox Twenty with the grandiose arena-rock production style favored by bands like Styx. Lyrically, Smith's declarations of faith and hope are broad and sweeping, often falling less into the praise & worship bag and more into a category that could be termed "positive outlook." Musically, the album uses the full range of modern sounds, from the sweeping strings and mechanized beats of "Live Forever" to the rich vocal harmonies and No Doubt-esque synth melodies of "Eagles Fly." A special treat is the singer's dramatic version of the Simon & Garfunkel classic "Bridge over Troubled Water," which proves that Smith can turn even secular songs into stirring expressions of faith. | See an error? Top ReviewsReview created: 09/01/06 7 of 9 people found this review helpful. I have long been a fan of Michael W, ever since his first album Project. Healing Rain his 18th album was released in 2004. This was Michael's first pop album since 1999, on the heels of his 2 extremely popular worship albums. I would say the theme of this CD is healing & restoration. Michael's fabulous vocals & signature keyboards will keep you singing along. The cd includes Here I Am, the title song Healing Rain, Live Forever, Hang On, Fly to the Moon Human Spark, We Can't Wait any Longer, I Am Love, Eagles Fly & All I want, all written by Smith. He does a fabulous rendition of Paul Simom's well known Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Although this is considered a pop not worship record, there is a Christian message in all the songs. Michael W Smith's work accounts for more than 12 million albums sold, 13 gold and five platinum records, over 40 Dove Awards(can you believe that over 40!), two Grammys and an American Music Award. If you have been a fan of Michael W. in the past I am sure you will be inspired by & enjoy this as well. I highly recommend! Review ID: 10000000001692308 Was this review helpful?
