Big Head vs Small Brains
Review created: 05/06/09(updated 05/08/09)

While not one of my favourite Full Moon flicks, "Head of the Family" has a lot going for it.
Both a horror movie & a black comedy which can best be described as 'Southern Gothic', it is well-written & well-acted & deals with a small town sleazebag who blackmails the freakish Stackpool clan into getting him out of a tight situation with a local biker whose wife he's secretly sleeping with only to make the mistake of getting greedy, & it features probably the most iconic of Full Moon's non-toy-based villains.
Although there isn't really any gore, there is a lot of disturbing deformities & disfigurements on view, not to mention a more than fair amount of nudity & sex between consenting adulterers.
As for the extras, for some reason there is no VideoZone "making of-" documentary, but there is a cool commentary track that features both J.W. Pera & his title character Myron Stackpool which, while it may not entirely work, is rather amusing & certainly informative.
There is also a short 'trailer reel', including one of the planned sequel "Bride of the Head of the Family", although that is less of preview & more of a videotaped makeup test.
There are also short biographies of some of the cast members, & like on the "Blood Dolls" disc, one of them is very, VERY strange...
As for my recommendation, well, if you think the picture on the box looks cool, you'll probably enjoy this movie, so give it a try.
