Haze (Playstation 3, 2008)

Haze was beat up pretty well by all of the profesional reviewers. I on the other hand enjoyed this title by Ubisoft very much. The story is: you are a guy named Carpenter working as a soldier for a company called Mantel. Mantel makes this revolutionary drug called Nectar that enhances a persons abaility to heal and perform in combat. What mantel doesn't tell the soldiers that are working for them is the drug is highly adictive and alters a persons view of reality and after longer term use of the drug it will cause you to die a painful death. Rebels are stealing Mantels Nectar so you are sent in to stop the rebels from stealing the nectar. The rebels want to destroy the nectar because they are aware of the side effects. The first 1/4 of the game you play as a Mantel soldier killing rebels. I enjoyed this part of the game because you can self administer Nectar and your targets are lit up and glow and is fun and easy to target and hit. Of course the rest of the game you grow a concious and realize that Mantel is a corupt corporation. After this you no longer can use Nectar. The rest of the game is fun just not the same without nectar. However the rest of the game does make up for this in other aspects. The game is rated mature and even though I am not a believer in the video game is killing our youth movement. I would strongly suggest evaluating this game if a younger person will be playing this game. There are scenes of mass graves and dead soldiers and the usually blood and alot of cursing as well as suecide. The graphics are great as you would expect. The controls are completely mapable which I like. Checkpoints are easily achieved so your next save point is always close. The weapons selection is good, however you can only have 2 weapons at one particular time. The amo situation is sometimes frustrating. Someties it will collect amo automaticaly and sometimes you have to collect it yourself. There are vehicles but they are pointless and take away from the game. The enemy and squad A.I is inconsistent. Sometimes your squad is helpfull and sometimes not as well with the enemies A.I. sometimes they are very aggresive and sometimes they just sit there for you to kill. But all in all in thought it worked well. This game offers about 30hrs of play per level. The voice overs are very annoying it's always the same thing over and over again at some point you almost want your squad to get killed just to shut them up. I only encountered 1 bug in the game and that was close to the end. So all in all not a great game but a solid game and well worth the time you spend on it. As far a s value I would never buy it at full price but @$30 is a good value.

I love this game in all aspect. I decide to purchase this game becasue I like action. Wich this game have everything I was looking for and more. Recommend this game to the people that looking for action.

This game is pretty good, a little above average. Too bad most average games today are pretty bad. The grahics below PS3 standard, the storyline is pretty routine. You start out on the bad guy team, you find out how bad they are, and you switch sides to fight the REAL BAD GUYS!!! Wow, never heard that before. There are a couple new features, like being able to play dead. the bad guys are pretty lame characters and use plenty of corny one liners that are kinda of funny. It is a good buy for under 15 bucks, I paid 13 including shipping, dont pay more than that, save your money and wait for it to get cheaper, which it surely will. Lots of action typical FPS.

I liked what I saw about it. I was a little disappointed in the game play, and I think there is way to much down time in the game, and not enough game play. Could do with out all the cut scenes.

Great graphics Cool storyline kind of a dissapointing endding but still worth the time to play!!!!!!!!!!

The first 1/4 of the game is slow, and you have to get used to the DRUG suit, that controls your characters actions, and makes him a SUPER SOLDIER. Your soldiers NECTAR (performance enhancer)does not work particularly well, and the game really takes off when Sgt. Shane Carpenter defects, and fights for the other side, using all the cool weapons from Mantel, against Mantel soldiers. The Nectar grenades, give the Mantel soldiers and over-dose, and its fun to watch them have a Melt down.The graphics, weapon selection, and gameplay is awesome for the last 3/4 of the game, and it has a decent story to keep you going. I didn't particularly like the beginning of the game, it was getting aggravating, too much setting up for the use of the Performance Enhancer, that doesn't work the way it should on your character. The game made your suit malfaction, at critical moments, to fit the story that Shane Carpenter wasn't totally controlled by NECTAR, as all the other Mantel troops. It is a solid shooter once past the lame beginning. 8/10

It's like a wanna-be HALO. Except your fighting rebels instead of aliens. Also you have to inject yourself with "Nectar" in order to keep your status up and not die. It's a good game.

Great price for a new PS3 game. The games is actually quite fun despite what people have said. I enjoyed it. Great product.

This is one of the better games I've played. The action keeps you involved throughout play and in is very suspenseful. Full of action, you'll soon find yourself playing this game constantly.

This game gets a bad rap from many people mainly because of the 3rd grader dialog but fail to tell you only the first 20 minutes of the game is plagued with this foolishness.
After your character switches sides and fights against the foul mouths, the extremely juvenile cross chatter is reduced significantly.
Haze is not on par with say, MetalGear 4 to be sure, yet it is a solid shooter on a system (PS3) soiled with mediocre shooting games.
I recently purchased a PS3 system and as far as the hardware and Sony support, (Xbox Live counterpart) the PS3 cannot be beat. I was a devout 360 fanboy but no more.
Games like Resistance 1+2 have severe problems as well, yet rate high on review scales, and in my opinion are unwarranted, while Haze is minimalized unjustly.

At 16.95 brand new on Ebay, this game is a worthy contender for any collector.

A typical first person shooter. The Nectar aspect of the game is the hook that is supposed to make it different, I think it makes it uninteresting. The storyline is not that great either. Nothing exciting. Save your money and purchase a good shooter such as call of duty.

In a gaming world filled with cookie cutter shooters you need to go the extra mile to set yourself apart. Sadly, Haze has failed to do so. Corny, ridiculous comments abound from Mantel forces. Further hindering a less than profound gaming experience. Maybe I expect too much but if I'm going to take a shooter game seriously I would rather not hear my squad mates saying things like, "Is there an award for the most bada** gansta? Cause thats me." Things like that cause me to lose my ability to care what happens to my squad. The controls are fairly solid and the game has an interesting premise but, with a little more creative effort I feel Haze could have been a much better title.
I will say that after you defect over to the rebels the game improves considerably but it still could have been much more than an average shooter.

Good graphics, regular development of the play, can be better; maybe in third person with options of fight could be better; is better than the translations to Spanish they do it in a different country to that of Spain, with a more neutral accent, but not the Spaniards.

I rented it from blockbuster 2 weeks ago and liked it enough to buy it on here. Good shooter for the PS3.

the game is great .. the only thing that I dont like is the waiting time .. charter faster charter .. is like 20 min of conversation ... (less than that but) .. thats the only thing .. but overroll .. great game ..

I like this game alot. The graphics are great and the story is easy enough to follow. I wouldnt recommend this game for young kids though, because of the drugged up nature of the soliders.

i love the shooter games, love blowing stuff up, its a nice way to relize stress. i would recomend this to other first person shootewrs

haze gameplay, graffix, sound are all good. Im big on the co-op part of these games and with the side to side view i find my friends and i get lost and confused at where we are at cause we have no perifural view. Game is a good one and is getting to a reasonable price.

We had just got our PS3 from a pawn shop and my son was eyeing this game. It was %59.99 new, $49.99 used at the game stores. I checked ebay out of curiosity and one the first one I was bidding on for a total of $16.00, including shipping. Awesome find, awesome price, and my son is still playing it.
