Have a New Kid by Friday by Kevin Leman (2008, Hardcover)

Once I got the book I could not wait to begin to read it. Though I am slow at picking things up (no time for me) I read the first few chapters and began implementing the changes immediately. It was a rough start at first because I had to change me. That was the hardest thing, though I still have some things to work on my family I can finally say I actually am not embarassed to take us out together as family any longer. This was the best money ever spent for my family and myself!

This is a very good book for any parent to read! Down-to-earth and easy to implement, Leman delivers wonderful advice on how to handle nearly any situation you may face as a parent. This book has helped me to quit nagging my children and become a more positive mother. And the kids are actually better-behaved as a result! It has worked equally well for my two-year old as well as my 12-year old.

Kevin Leman is very blunt and teaches you how to take the bull by the horns and get control of your child by parenting instead of giving in or taking the easy way out. He is a Christian and may put off non-Christians, but the theories are pretty simple and straightforward for anyone.

Even if you're not usually consistent in your parenting, the direction in this book seems to make daily living more enjoyable and not just a struggle or test of wills. It is not cruel parenting, but it is more strict. The book has actions and structure to help you be consistent and firm on your decisions, but also loving and nurturing.

This book was written for those of us living in a time where once logical parenting has become parenting of convenience. It is a refreshing reminder to say the least and gives a much needed course of common sense, love, persistence, and patience. A fast read, it reflects the way my own parents have raised me. Simple and easy to understand the author shares his insights in how to change and improve upon a child's behavior by simply being a parent rather than a friend. I put his suggestions to work right away and my kids caught on immediately. Parenting is not always easy. I have simply painted a mental picture of the type of person I want my child to be and there are steps that need to be taken in order to achieve that. Thank you to the author for giving us this wonderful refresher course.

I bought the book after author appeared on Today show. It provides simple solutions to not so simple problems. It does however get the parent options to problems that seem unsurmountable. A must read for parents with problem children and maybe especially teens. It is not the solution but opens the door to solving problems

This is a helpful parenting book with ideas, thoughts and methods to change your inappropriate parenting style. I was expecting the actual book to be longer, about half the book comes with specific suggestions dealing with everyday issues parents face with kids of all ages.

Excellent advice. Easy read, practices that you can use and incorporate into daily routine. I have 5 children, three teens and two babies.

Everything and more...just searched the internet to find a "christian" cruise for my elderly catholic parents. Found the author here, Kevin Leman, was hosted on one of those cruises. He's all over the place. Never heard him name before and now I see him everywhere...bought another book too. Very well writen, easy to understand, practical...more than mere common sense, actual strategies that work. And, I have an autistic child!

After borrowing a friend's copy, I decided I wanted my own copy. I like the easy-to-read layout and it's a great tool for discipling other kids (besides my own) too!

love it love it, the book has given us new insite into the ways to get things done a great book for the enhancing our relationship it takes time but its working.

Excellent book. I enjoyed it completely and would recommend that anyone having trouble with a child reads this book! I can't tell you when I've been so excited to read a book that relates to all children.

I Love this book, I'm a Grandmother of 11 grandchildren. Recently I had a Birthday Party. When everyone left I thought WHAT is wrong with Parents & Children ! No respect, won't listen to their parents, everyone was yelling, children rebelling, talking back. The next day I just happened to see a talk show host interview this author & I ordered the book. I'm going to order 3 more! It is loaded with wonderful information easy to do steps easy to read & understand.

I bought this book because my daughter (mother of four under 10 years of age) had mentioned that she would like to read it. I have never read it myself, but am familiar with Kevin Leman, the author, and really enjoy his common sense, wisdom and sense of humor. I believe that reading this and applying the information will only help to make good children even better children.

This book is a must for parents and also in my case, grandparents. It gives simple basic guide lines on how to handle situations with children. If you have tried everything else to conquer those temper tantrums to no avail, this book is definitely for you.

I bought the book as a Christmas gift for a friend of mine. But I started to read the first chapter and decided to give it to her early because she needed it now. I think its a great book to teach some parents how to raise their child, if the child is disobeient. I myself believe in the way of the bible. It says in psalms that you should hit the child with a rod, he will not die. I was spanked as a child and I am thankful to have had parents that loved me enough to punish me the way I deserved to be punished. I am 55 years old now and I have a lot of respect for my elders. Where as the kids of today tend to walk all over their parents. It makes me cry to see childern getting away with such things as cussing at the woman that gave them birth in the first place.
I would recomend this book to any parent that wants to raise their child the way it was supposed to be. I don't think you should punish the child out of anger though. But in a loving way.

It was a good little read. I didn't learn a bunch of things I didn't already know, but it reminded me of many things I was not practicing. It was east to read and apply and it worked. Not everything it suggests works perfectly, but it gives a parent some ammo. We parents need all the help we can get and this may help.

Dr Leman's book Have a New Kid By Friday is really great advice and very simple guidelines to follow. Not only does he help teach you how to deal with your kids, he helps you deal with yourself at the same time. Also in the book is any situation you can think of that you'd want to ask him how to deal with it. After reading this book, we still have some working to do with our daughter but we can already see changes and still have our second daughter who's only 11 months old that we can work with once she gets older as well! he even gives small advice on simple things with her age such as hitting...we all know babies start that once they realize what no means! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has huge mountains to overcome or who just have a couple small molehills (lemans terms) that they need to correct before they become mountains!

Dr. Leman's newest book is a straight forward common sense way for us parents to make subtle changes that can dramatically affect our children's behavior. He gives many examples of poor behavior as well as behavior that we as parents aren't really sure warrants action.

As we are creatures of habit, it does take longer than a week, but many of his techniques, you can begin with immediately. This is a well written, light hearted version of "train the parent to have better behaved children". I truly enjoyed this one and my 8 yr old was quite taken by the title.

This is an excellent book for anyone who has the opportunity to work with children of any age. It's easy to read, and contains a lot of helpful advice. Dr. Lehman is an excellent author who has years of experience rearing his own children. The book is well written and easy to read.

I bought this book because I teach kindergarten, and one of my students' parents said it has been very helpful to her; I can now recommend it and loan it to parents if they'd like to read it.

This is a very practical book for parents today and a wonderful read. Any childrens' caretaker can read this & walk away confident that the advice given in this book is right on. Following through with the tips given here has been a great experience for my husband & me.
