  An Excellent Survival/Horror Video Game!
Review created: 04/28/06(updated 04/28/06)

As a fan of other Survival/Horror video games, especially those made by Capcom, I was excited to see a new game in my favorite video game catagory, named Haunting Ground. I saw really nice, full page ads in my video game magazines, and decided this looked like a cool game. After having bought it, I loved it! The graphics are top notch, and really add to the creepy setting. There are parts that will scare you, and with the lights turned off will only add to that. The game is a bit on the short side, but the game does have an option for a second quest which will add more difficulty. There are lots of items and cut scenes to unlock, so playing for those will add more fun to an already fun game. This is also a great game for those who cannot stand too much blood and gore, as it is rarely even present. Overall, I would give it a solid 9 out of 10.

Haunting Ground. - Not so scary. More odd than scary.

-----------------------Review------------------------------

I bought this game thinking it was going to be horror. No. I was wrong.

It has horror elements but --not-- the type of horror you're probably expecting. It felt more like a girl's worst nightmare.
It's more odd more than anything. The game has a massive man called Debilitas who looks like a hunchback who peeks on Fiona ( the main character) while she is dressing. And some strange guy trying to impregnate Fiona throughout the whole game. There is alot of uneasy sexuality in this game. Haunting ground is definitely not for everyone.

-----------------Aspects of the game------------------
1. Fiona is running away and hiding 90% of the time. Fiona has no weapons.
2. You give commands to the dog in order to do paticular actions. The dog does alot of the attacking for you.
3. Solving puzzles.

---------------Features of the game-----------------
1. Fiona has a Panic meter and once that panic meter is full, she will panic and run, it will be harder to access special items and control her movements while running, you will have to keep her from triping.
2.During Fiona's panic attacks. You see the screen with washed-out colors, panic vision. Making the game suspenceful.
3. Benefits of having Hewie the dog, is that he can sniff out or find clues. Hewie can also go into areas that Fiona can't go into and bring her special items she can't get or reach. You also will have to establish a good relationship with the dog in order to have it perform well.
3. Very nice animation, graphics, sound.

---------------Story--------------------

Fiona is a typical girl who wakes up in a manor. She has no memory of how she got there but she only remembers that she was in a car crash and her parents are dead. She eventually finds a dog called Hewie who ends up being Fiona's protector throughout the whole game. They explore the manor encountering many different enemies. Ultimately, Fiona's goal is to figure out how she's going to escape the manor.

--------------Advice-------------------

Haunting ground is an odd one. If you feel you would like this type of game go for it, but it's also a short game. But if you're looking for something to scare you.....
Save your money and buy Siren, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, Kuon, or even Clocktower 3.

  Scary!

Even though Silent Hill was scary, this game is scary in that you don't have any weapons and you feel helpless all the time. While anxiously trying to solve puzzles, you're waiting for that moment when your pursuier is coming around the corner, and even scarier is when you duck out in one of the few hiding spots, watching them hunt around for you! This game is really exciting.

I decided to buy this game after watching some of my friend's play it at a party. The characters are very likeable and the gameplay is very creepy. The fact that you don't have a gun (like in almost every other game) is very appealing too. The graphics and backgrounds are very ominous and put a great feel into the game. Entertaining and scary, I love it!

One of the best games I've played...

To be honest, what caught my eye was Hewie, the dog. Anyways, this game could be considered "horror" but the characters themselves aren't that scary (except the maid) but the fact that you have to constantly be on your toes. You never know when or where they'll chase you which is very nerve-racking. Your antagonists are also listening for sounds from you. Whether it be your boots hitting the ground or Hewie barking at you, they hear it and it attracts them. Not to mention, you have to run and hide. No solid fighting. ^_~ Just enough so you can get away. It is also difficult because the only thing you can do is kick. Woo! Actually, Hewie, your American White Shepherd, does all of the fighting. There is hardly any gore in the game, at least as far as I've seen. One of the great features of this game is when you beat it. You can unlock four endings, 5 alternate outfits for Fiona Belli (you), and 2 alternate outfits for Hewie. Each outfit gets a different pro/con for Hewie and a different weapon for Fiona. (Cowgirl=Gun, Illegal in some States=Whip, GSD Hewie=Strong Attack, Doesn't Listen as Often) Also the mini-game is a great addition to the ending. You get to play as Hewie and guide Fiona. :) This is definatly a great game worth checking out. Although, it may be hard to find in stores. HG was a limited release by Capcom, meaning only a certain amount was released.

why won't you let me into your womb!?

if i had to describe this game in one word: innovative.
i picked this up at k-mart for either $10-$15, and it was well worth it.

you're fiona belli heiress to the belli castle. on your way there with your parents, you're in a car crash. you wake up in a cage in the basement, wearing only a sheet.. but the lock on the cage is undone...

this game introduces some new ideas to the survival horror genre, such as befriending a pooch, panic mode (where your character is nearly incontrollable and runs on their own), and unique weapons and combat.

the controls are tight, considering you're maneuvering both fiona and her dog (you only have to call to him to have him follow you). you can strengthen their bond by praise when he does something right, encouraging him when he protects you, and feeding him when he's hurt. he can reach items you can't & open places you can't. good boy!

the graphics are excellent, with tiny details like a bunny hopping away out in the ..courtyard area? highly detailed rooms filled with trinkets and gadgets and bits and bobs occupy the castle. it's possible to get lost, but all the areas look different enough to distinguish your location easily. the puzzles are fun, often requiring a team effort between fiona and hewie.

you'll encounter the inhabitants of the castle, such as the gardener, maid, etc.
if you didn't like resident evil 3 or the second scenarios of resident evil 2, with nemesis and tyrant 103 chasing you, you won't like this game. the occupants of the castle will constantly chase you, making you resort to hiding in random spots (under the bed, in the closet, under a bench, etc). if you hide in one spot for too long or too many times, they'll find you. one of the freakier aspects of the game. if you and hewie can manage to knock them down, they'll drop a weapon or healing item. pick it up and get the hell out of there, cuz they'll get up soon. search them twice and they'll get up the second time.

this game is full of beautiful rooms, amazing cutscenes, fun puzzles, interesting characters, and original gameplay, all wrapped up in a great storyline. if you're a fan of survival horror, you can't go wrong.

This is definately an underrated game that deserved more of a chance than it received. It's very reminiscent of Capcom's other survival horror game Clock Tower 3, it even uses some of the same sound effects.
There's not a lot of gore in this game, despite the warning at the beginning, but it is very creepy and atmospheric. The plot is very mysterious and the well made cutscenes really drive you to discover more of the story.
Some aspects can get frustrating, like when you can't get Hewie(the dog) to do what you want, or when you keep having to stop exploring to ditch whatever monstrosity is chasing you.
All in all, it's a fun game that really deserved a better chance, (I never saw any commercials or print ads), so if you are a fan of classic survival horror, you should give it a chance. Especially because it can be picked up pretty cheap now.

I love the game. If you're a fan of the Clock Tower series, then you'll love this. The thing I love most about these games, is that you can play it multiple times and get different results.

controls are bad, plot is more weird than scary and the puzzles in the game are confusion and difficult to figure out. This is the first time capcom has let me down.

This Game is Strange, in a Good Way!
Review created: 06/09/09

This is a rather strange game, even for someone like me, a survival horror specialist. It follows a similar premise to the game Clock Tower 3 with the whole hiding mechanism, but it has many differences. The artificial intelligence is much smarter in this game. You also have a companion with you throughout the course of the game. The replay value is high, with higher difficulties, alternate cutscenes, alternate endings, and alternate costumes for the characters. The game does have its creepy moments, but it isn't over the top scary. Overall this game is fun, and definately worth a look if you have some time to kill, or if you like survival horror in general. I would highly recommend it.

The disk arrived quickly, and in perfect condition. Factory sealed with the booklet and it works like a dream. Excellent game; makes the hair on the back of your neck prickle at some parts, and a grasping story line with a cast of interesting, but somewhat insane characters.

I watched this game as my kids played it. I loved it and couldn't wait till they played it again. Disappointed when ever they had to quit to go do other things. It's the mystery of it all and the seach to find the hidden tricks in the game.
Just a great game and for a parent to enjoy..just like reading a book or watching a movie... but you have some control over it all.

  The Haunting Ground
Review created: 12/03/07

I had never heard of this game before, so I knew nothing about it, but when I read the title and information about the game I was interested and bought it. As soon as it got to me I opened it and began playing. At first I got stuck for days trying to figure out how to play the game, went on the internet for cheat codes and didnt find anything useful. But now I've beaten the game and enjoyed it alot, now my cousin is attempting to complete the game. I love this game! I recommend this game for anyone who loves dark an mysterous games.

I like survival horror games. Haunting Ground is turning out to be no exception. It's even a little refreshing in it's own way. I also like the fact that it was cheaper than my local stores at the time. I don't know why some people knock this game.
