This is a good story about a boy lost, and then surviving in the wilderness. I bought it for my sons to read over the summer. They enjoyed reading it and almost(!) wish they could experience a similar trip. The author does a great job in describing the wilderness, and the things that go along with being lost, such as mosquitoes, bears, and learning to cope with emotions inside the boy as well.
We read and enjoyed this book, plus two sequels with different endings. As a Christian, I will tell you this is written from a secular perspective. The boy has to deal with his parent's divorce, and there are a few words that might be of concern. This book deals with growing up, divorce, death, adultery, and being totally alone. My children have never had to deal with divorce, but their dad did; so this gives them a glimpse into what he dealt with. By the way, my daughter didn't like it, she didn't even want to think about being alone, lost and not having anyone to talk to!!
I still think this is a good book for 12 years old and up. White-out will work for the words that you might disagree with.
