Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility (Wii, 2008)

I admit, with other critics reviews, I was a bit weary about the new Harvest Moon title. But I must say that even though there are a few drawbacks, Harvest Moon has made a nice transition to the Wii...

POSITIVES:
+ HIGH REPLAY VALUE - As with all of the other HM titles, ToT will keep you busy from morning to night. You'll find yourself juggling a multitude of things from wooing a girl, to watering crops, tending to livestock, working part-time jobs, heading to the mine, etc. The setting is very large with lots of places to explore (and unlock). Hours upon hours of things to do.

+ CORE HM VALUES: All of the things that make a good Harvest Moon game are here. Finding and courting a mate, digging at the mine, cooking, building up a house, exploring, and even a story to keep things interesting. Avid Harvest Moon fans will NOT be dissapointed!

+ LOTS OF SHIPPING BOXES - Hardcore HM fans know that if you wanted something shipped, you need to bring it home and stuff it in the shipping box. Not anymore! There are nearly a dozen of these scattered throughout the land for you to use so you can keep that rucksack empty. AND, you can even take things out in case you changed your mind later on. A well-improved change.

+ WALK-THROUGH CROPS: FINALLY, you can reach all of your crops without having to cut one or two down to reach the center! The crops now allow you to walk through (around) them to get to those pesky middle ones! Another well-needed change!

+ FUN FESTIVALS: The previous Gamecube title had rather lackluster festivals. They've revamped them a bit and added a nice feature - you can enter the festival, leave, and return. Before, once you entered the festival, you were not able to return if you decided to leave. Like this feature!

NEGATIVES:

- LOADING TIME: Upon passing from scene to scene or indoors to outdoor, you'll find youself staring at a 'PLEASE WAIT...LOADING' screen a lot. The wait can be anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds (typically about 3-5 seconds), but it can be a bit annoying, especially if you accidently slip into one from one scene to another.

- SLOW START: One of the nice things about Harvest Moon is the freedom to do what you want. You'll find that as the story unfolds in the start of the game, you'll be limited on what you can do for the first few days. It'll take a good hour before you can truly get the freedom to do what you want.

- SMALL USE OF WII CONTROL: Sadly, there wouldn't be much difference in this game if you were to use the Classic Remote. The Wii remote does little to add to the expirence of farming. It'd be nice to have HM be a bit more interactive with the unlimited possiblities of the Wii remotes motion sensors.

- DAY A BIT SHORT: The island is very large, and there's lots to explore. The days seem short and I find myself only being able to do one or two things before I have to rush back home. Whatever happened to that 'RETURN HOME FOR THE DAY' option that HM: MM had?

OVERALL:
Everything that we want in an HM game is here and more. The core factors are at play with little change from previous HM releases.

Unfortunately, there are definitely some aspects overlooked like Wi-Fi playing and more Wii remote use. But, I'm sure those will be ideas on future releases.

Overall, you're looking at hours of entertainment with a few minor drawbacks. Diehard fans will fall in love all over again. Newbies will find a new addiction.

I think that harvest moon is a very unique and fun game to play. At times it can fel repetetive but you get over that pretty quick. Its very similar to a sims game but takes place on a farm with a lot of loveable characters. You have moved to an island town that was once brimming with life and energy. But now, however, the island is in trouble and it's up to you to save it. The mystical Mother Tree that once watched over the island has disappeared, and the Harvest Goddess is nowhere to be found. The island has lost its connection with nature and the inhabitants don't know what to do.
Till the earth, befriend and raise animals, nurture friendships, and build a family. When the giant Mother Tree is reborn, the Harvest Goddess will be able to return and bring prosperity to the island once again.Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility is filled with exciting features that are sure to delight both new players and longtime Harvest Moon fans. There are lot of crops to grow, a variety of animals to care for, tons of festivals to participate in, and an exciting story.

fast shipping and fun game...great buy...highly recomended...as a girl, I don't like certain wii games. And this one is now one of my favorite game....

I really don't know much about this game, but I bought it for my g/f because she became completely addicted to it when she rented it. It's an RPG that centers around farming by my estimations. She doesn't like a whole lot of games, but she loves this one.

I bought it because I knew someone who had it. I had tried it previously and thought it was worth buying. In the end it was and I thought it was worth every penny. The game is cute, simple enough for kids, and very addicting. I would recommend most people to buy this game.

The game is excelent! People who liked the old Harvest moon for GC will love this one! :o) Graphics are great, and you can have now diferent animals, like goats, silkworms, Ducks.. Same old Harvest moon style, but with new features!!

The game case appeared new and came with the manual. The disc was in excellent condition and the game worked great.

My kids had been bugging me for a long time about getting this game. They love it but they are farm boys. I would recommend this to anyone that like playing fun games. The game did take a long time to arrive at our house which usually doesn't take that long when we purchase it on ebay. Took about two weeks and my kids couldn't hardly wait.

It's a very relaxing game full of interesting story lines. You play at your own pace...no rushing to fulfil any of the story-line requirements. It is full of different options to play with to keep it interesting. If you want a laid-back game that is relaxing as well as interesting; then this game is for you. :)

I rented this and played for 5 days...and I was hooked! So I decided to buy it right away. It's like a version of Animal Crossing that doesn't get boring after 10 minutes. You grow crops, fish, mine for ores and pick mushrooms, raise animals, get married and have a baby, which is all fun stuff, but there's also a plot, so it's not entirely pointless. I just love this game, I definitely will play more HM games in the future!

THe reasons I bought the game was because I enjoy the Harvest Moon series. What i love about it is the great game play and the storline.

This is a great game for my kids. They are 15, 13 & 11 and love it! It is a good clean family game. The bonus to this one is that you can be either a boy or a girl. I would recommend it to anyone. The only downfall is the amount of time my kids want to spend playing it.

Very cute game but also very time consuming. I got bored after a few days in the game but the story line keeps pulling me in! >_<. I love this game though. The graphics are just breath-taking.

I love this game. It is so much fun. I can't hardly stop playing to get anything done! Having the animals to take care of and your gardens is wonderful. I will never tire of this game. there is so much to do.

This is an additive game, one of the better HM. It has features like the part time job and the stacking of items in your rupsack so it feels like it holds more. There is way more things to do and find and the quest do go on for ever as well as when the island gets its majority of charactures.

Tools hold their charges longer and the upgrade is instance when you have the right ore and money. Mining is done differently as you dont get to have the ores or gems but take the mineral to the blacksmith Mira and she refines the items for you so it does take longer to find out what treasures you have dug up from the mines. Pontana Root is almost non existance and a rare find in the mines.

The Aminal Festival you cant pick your animal that enters the contest and only one contest at the festival. Very good game if you want to play all hours of the day without sleep. Get this one.

I love this Game!! there is so much to do, you can play for hours without even noticing. This is a great game for everyone.

Dislikes: They need to utilize the wii remote more. The remote is what makes the Wii so great.

i like it because my daughter really has enjoyed the game at other peoples houses and finally got the opportunity to own it. She is so exited because the game offers a challenge that most other games either dont offer or or too graphic for our family!
