I purchased this cd because I am a big fan of the Harry Potter books and as a seamstress, I spend lots of time at my sewing machine. It's nice to have the ability to enjoy the books via audiotape. The cd arrived as promised, in a timely manner and of good quality.

Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire

I am the biggest Harry Potter nerd in the world. I have 6 of 7 audio cd's. I listen to them at work all day. I desperately needed #4 for my collection and I couldn't wait to get it as a gift, so I bought it myself at a very (I think!) reasonable price. I am supposed to get #2 (Chamber of Secrets) for my birthday, but if I don't I'll be looking to eBay!!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on CD
Review created: 06/05/08
by:

I love that they keep the same narrator through out all the books on cd. I decided to buy the books on cd is because when I'm reading I alreay have in my mind what the character's voices should or would sound like and I like actually hearing them while I'm reading the story. The only thing I dislike is having to stop and change the cd's so often. That's the only up side to getting a MP3 cd you stop only when you want to and no changing cd's.

  Love, love, love Harry Potter!!
Review created: 05/04/08

I really liked all the Harry Potter books and the audiobooks for them are done wonderfully. I really like the reader, he does an excellent job. This book is one of my favorites of the series because it starts to get a little more serious and a little scarier. I don't think there's anything I dislike about the audiobook. I had the first books on audio and I loved them so I just had to try this one too, and I wasn't disappointed. I'd recommend this audiobook for anyone that likes a good read, child or adult.

  never completed purchase

i never completed the purchase. that's because when the seller demanded additional money i did not pledge i contacted your customer service and received a warning that the seller was not authorized. i'm very grateful to ebay for picking this up and warning me, but frankly i am now terrified of using ebay again since the emails from the fraudulent seller looked like the real thing and there was no way for me to tell the difference.

  Goblet of fire

I have read the book 2 times. And I would still rather visit the whole story than watch the movie so I have it to listen to on trips and while gardening. Jim Dale does an excellent job of distinguishing the voices of each character.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Audiobook was great
Review created: 12/27/07

I really liked this audiobook! It was great! Jim Dale does an amazing job of capturing the characters essence!!! These books are great to listen to while driving or in my case while doing dental work. It really makes time fly! You hardly notice that you have been going work for hours. This book i feel was a great turning point in the Harry Potter saga! This is the turning point in the series! Great book overall! And if you can get the book as cheap as i did you wont be disappointed!

I love the entire Harry Potter series. We have all the books and all of them on tape or CD, so that we can listen to them on car trips. Our whole family enjoys listening to them. I love that they are being made into movies. We have seen all of the movies so far.

Harry and Series Comes of Age
Review created: 08/17/07

The main plot centers around the Tri-Wizard Tournament, where the three most prestigious schools of witchcraft and wizardry select a champion to compete. The tournaments are extremely dangerous and this year's is no exception. The events include stealing an egg from a dragon, rescuing a loved one from the bottom of the lake and the guardian mer-folk and finding the winner's cup in a maze made up of carnivorous hedges.

Harry wants no part of it, but the Goblet of Fire, which chooses a champion from each school, spat his name out. The tournament is supposed to be only for sixth and seventh years, but Harry is forced to participate anyway.

I said in my review of Prisoner of Azkaban that Harry comes of age at the end, when he decides to bring his parent's betrayer to justice rather than kill him out of revenge. In Goblet of Fire, Rowling has the world treat him like an adult as well, despite his age.

The new teacher of Defense Against the Dark Arts shows the class the three most horrible curses known to the wizarding world, which is pretty mature stuff. It is also the last real lesson a teacher gives Harry for the rest of the series. Never again does Harry learn a new spell in school, at least not one that is specifically mentioned in the books. He either uses spells he already knows, learns on his own or gets from his peers. There is only one more effort for a professor to teach him something (Snape teaching Occlumancy in Order of the Phoenix) and it fails.

The theme of adults no longer being able to help Harry does not end in the classroom. In the earlier books, tough questions could usually be answered by adults, or at least enough information as to form a helpful clue. Although Harry does continue to receive advice from adults in this book and the rest of the series, it is no longer very helpful. Much advice turns out to be wrong and often the adult admits to not knowing. When anything useful is received, it is of very marginal value.

The final demonstration of manhood comes when Harry must face off with Voldermort one on one. When it is over, he has completed his rite of manhood, regardless of what the Ministry says about his age.

But more than just Harry is developing. Although a mega-plot has been hinted at in previous books, this is the first time we see more than just shadows or vague references. Voldermort is alive, he has a plan and he is able to get his minions to execute his wishes. The attack on Harry wasn't a target of opportunity like the three times before, it was pre-meditated.

And Voldermore has an unwitting ally in The Ministry. The Ministry unwittingly joins the side of Voldermort when they force Harry to compete. One law says that the goblet chooses the champions, but another law says the underage should be protected. Any judge with a sense of fairness and decency would choose to protect the young over a rule to a game, no matter how important the game was. This should especially be true when it was clear that the goblet was tampered with.

Yet the Ministry didn't. It made a conscious decision to pervert the intent of a tradition for the sake of preserving the past and, in doing so, ignore the perils of the future. Like many decisions made in life, this choice has far reaching and disastrous consequences for wizards and muggles alike, but we don't see them right away. You have to read the final three books for that.

  Outstanding read performance
Review created: 07/07/07(updated 07/07/07)
by:

Highly recommend the CD format works great for those of us that don't seem to have time to sit and enjoy a good book anymore. I was able to listen-to each of the books while riding in the car. It was great, no distractions from other voices. Just focused on driving and listening.

After listening to Book #1, the Sorcerer's Stone, I liked it so much, that I've purchased the rest of the series in CD format. I am actually just finishing up on Book #4, Goblet of Fire.

Great audio book to read with kids
Review created: 05/10/07
by:

I decided to buy this book because I am a huge Harry Potter fan and my oldest child and I had such a great bond reading them together. However just as I was ready to read them to my youngest child I lost my eyesight but still wanted to create that reading bond with her. She now takes the book and reads along while we listen to the book. Her teachers think this will help her excel in reading while I get to enjoy the story again with my children. My oldest often joins us to hear it again. I think J. K. Rowling writes in great detail and for kids. It is easy enough to follow and understand and the challenge is to find the hidden messages and events that will shape Harry's future. This is the first book that we really see the emotional turmoil Harry gets from being who he is and excited that he triumph. Jim Dale is an excellent reader and portrays the emotion of the story. Having read it to one child it is neat to see how someone else would read it and I really enjoy listening to him tell such a great story. Great for summer reading or long car trips or just bonding time with your children.

  Harry Potter rip-off
Review created: 02/02/07
by:

The book itself is excellant, but the transaction was a rip=off! I was screwed by the seller! I payed and never received the item! I reported the incident and the seller just up and left ebay! I lost 33.00 + shipping! EBAY was no help at all! It seems that they charge a $25 fee to get your money back! It's a big load of crap! I contacted a lawyer; she said I could do nothing about it!
So I'm out my hard earned money and my visually impaired son is out of a christmas present! A word of advice- buyer beware! There are criminals within Ebay that pray on unsuspecting buyers! I will never buy anything on Ebay again!!!!!!!

I own all 6 "Harry Potter" audiobooks, and this one is probably my favorite! Jim Dale's Performance is OUTSTANDING, as is J.K. Rowling's storytelling!!! I have all the books on my MP3 player now, and its a very good way to pass the time. These stories aren't just for kids, either.... I'm 29 years old!!! LOL My children love listening to them as well. They make long car trips alot easier!

  Harry Potter audio book
Review created: 07/06/06

I recently purchased Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on audio book. We love it. I have a 12 year old son who does not really enjoy reading and I thought that perhaps hearing someone read the story might stimulate his interest in reading. He is reading more. We both love listening to Jim Dale's characterization of the people in the book. I would definitely buy more audio books of this type. They are very entertaining on car trips as well.
