Harry Potter Hardcover 1st Edition Books 1-7,Scholastic

First off, I think I need to preface my review with a short paragraph or two. I'd like to begin by saying that I am in my 40's, & not the typical Harry Potter fan, I'd wager. I took children to see the 1st Harry Potter movie, in the opening week, and I didn't pay too close attention to the film. I saw the age of the characters, and didn't feel like I could appreciate this type of movie. I figured it was another Pikachu, Pokeman, & the mauve colored dinosaur thing.. I figured wrong, but it took me 10 years to figure that out! When the "Potter" books were first being published in the U.S.A., in 1997-1998, I was finishing up my Bachelor's degree, after having served in the U.S. Army. When I was back in Junior High School, I first read J.R.R. Tolkien's: THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS, Two Classic works of "Fantasy Fiction", still unequalled in their Quality!
My wife died an unexpected death in early spring of 2008, leaving me a heartbroken widower. So I found myself sitting alone, watching on the Bigscreen at the Theater, HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE. The only reason I was even there, at the theater, was because of all the Great Anticipation & Excitement I heard in young college students' voices, & the teacher's also, when I attended a Summer session college class, in 2009. Due to the anticipated release of the 6th "Potter" film being released, numerous TV networks were airing showings of THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN & THE GOBLET OF FIRE, which I ended up watching at least twice apiece, and I truly liked THE GOBLET OF FIRE! Thus, I ended up watching THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE, Twice at the Theater! Then I had to go out and rent the first two "Potter" movies and THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. Now I had seen all 6 movies, and started to Appreciate HARRY POTTER, on film, really beginning with THE GOBLET OF FIRE.
Well, I found out that the last book in the "Potter" series is to be split into 2 movies, the 1st one being released in 2010, at the earliest! There was NO WAY I COULD WAIT THAT LONG, so I ended up buying the Books! I heard in the classroom, babble I could not understand, but in short the Books were more desirable than the Films, which in most cases is true! Seeing the price of the Paperback VS: Hardcover, I decided to go with Hardcover, in case this happened to be a Literary Work Worthy of Hardcopy, perhaps in the class of J.R.R. Tolkien himself!
*Now I have only read the first 3 books now, & the first two didn't seem to add or subtract much of anything from the films, perhaps the films were even better? But the 3rd book, PRISONER OF AZKABAN, did Vary quite a bit from the film. The books add some more or less trivial background, the first 30 pages of THE SORCERER'S STONE, was like trying to get through vomit to me, but after reading it, I can see how it is essential to know the pure miserable and dreary life Harry was living the first 10 years of his life... The 3rd film added some nice points the Book fails to fill in, but there is almost always some sort of give and take from Book to Movie anyway, right? Only now, in the years beginning with TITANIC, were the special effects REAL ENOUGH, to even CONTEMPLATE, THESE ENORMOUS FEATS, OF PUTTING LIFE OR PRINT, TO THE BIG SCREEN! I believe that even with the few disparities between Print and Film, THE LORD OF THE RINGS WAS EXCELLENT!!! DESTINED TO PROPEL INTO STARDOM, ANYONE WHO PLAYED THOSE CHARACTER ROLES! I Believe HARRY POTTER, will be the Same!
