Hardscrabble Road Jane Haddam
Another Gregor Demarkian (known as the Armenian-American Hercule Poirot) mystery. This one borrows heavily from recent events: a right-wing conservative commentator, Drew Harrigan (ala Rush Limbaugh), is arrested for illegal drug use...and disappears, supposedly into a rehab. He has accused a homeless alcoholic of being his supplier/buyer for his prescription drugs. But, like all Demarkian mysteries, there are twists and turns...this straightforward drug bust turns into a tortured tale of politics and murder. The twentieth installment of Haddam's long running series is just as good (if not better) than the first. Can be read as a stand-alone, although it's even better if you know all the recurring characters.
