Quirky Little Gem

This movie has plenty of charm to go around. Vincent D'Donfrio and Marisa Tomei work very well together; D'Onfrio is very compelling and likable even when it is clear that nothing is clear at all -- is he crazy? is he dangerous? is he from the future as he claims? Tomei has her own charms; no one can shriek in fury like she does, and the two of them have some very entertaining scenes together. Tomei's moments with her friends and the "Ex-Files", a box of photos of bad boyfriend choices, were also fun to watch. I'd never heard of this movie until moments before I bought it, but I've already watched it twice, and would watch it again if I hadn't loaned it out to a second person. It was a great find. I read elsewhere that some felt it was derivative of K-Pax, but I think that's only a minor consideration; the movies take different directions in how the main characters interact, what their goals are, and ultimately, how they end up. It does keep you guessing, and hoping, and the ending scenes are very satisfying. Catch it if you can.
