The Best!
) This CD is sophisticated and lyrical. Quincy Jones does "The Messiah" and, man, is it ever a "soulful celebration!" I give it as a Christmas present, and have three copies of my own -- just in case. I would never want to be without it! The musicianship is just outstanding. The arrangements are intricate and well balanced, so good you just experience the music joyfully without paying attention to just how technically fine it is. Absolutely wonderful.

I wanted to purchase Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration around the Christmas Holiday. Unfortunately, the seller never mailed me the product at all. I am very dissatisfied with this experience because all of my other ebay transactions have been fine. I believe that if you pay for merchandise, you should receive it in the mail within a reasonable period of time or receive your money back. This did not happen in this case.

I purchased this recording as a cassette when it was originally released. When I began teaching Hallelujah Chorus to my high school choir, I wanted them to hear the authentic recording rather than the arrangement done by a choral publisher.
This CD is a classic. It will last forever. Even if I had kept the cassette, the quality would not have been as good.

This CD is a compilation of various gospel and R&B artists. It is very interesting in that it is an "update" or "soulful take" on Handel's Messiah. There are even some harpsichord phrases in some of the songs, so you are aware that it is a composition based on the original. But of course, it sounds nothing like the classical version. It is a journey in music from African music to African-American music in the 90s - the first song indicates this. It is a great CD, although now a little dated in the style.
