Album Notes The Continental taste of King George I and King George II-the English court of the early 18th century-found wonderful musical expression in the international style cultivated by another George-George Frederic Handel. Nowhere is that style more in evidence than in his courtly festival music, especially his famous and ever-popular 'Water Music' and 'Music for the Royal Fireworks.' Under the sprightly direction of Hans-Martin Linde, the Linde Consort serves up this music with requisite portions of gusto and melodiousness. Linde always manages to seize on the most fitting way to render a given facet of Handel's varied style. In particular, Linde's sense of 18th-century dance rhythms sounds right on target, and the Consort plays the more up-tempo dance movements with a delightfully appropriate swing.
