I liked the idea of this coffee maker, who wouldn't? You just press your cup against it and get coffee. No pouring or spilling to deal with, right?
Unfortunately this item did not live up to expectations. The first unit I purchased overheated and the power button popped out at me one day! I called Hamilton Beach and had to send them a "small" s&h fee of $9.99 and the cord off the back of the unit before they would send me a replacement unit. I spent about $40 on the first one at Wal-Mart so I figured $10 was better than just buying another one for full price at Wal-Mart, right?
Well the second unit worked fine at first, and then the spout started dripping. I decided I could live with that, I just folded up a paper towel and placed it under the drip plate. Well recently (after one whole year of normal, less than one pot a day use) the unit just quit working. It doesn't recognize the water in the reservoir and just switches over to warming mode. I called Hamilton Beach again, and this time, because it had been over a year, they said they would need about $25 for a replacement. They didn't even seem surprised at the problems I described.
I told them I really didn't want another replacement and that I was switching to another brand of coffee maker.
I guess these could just be isolated incidents. The other problem I had with the unit was keeping it looking nice. The pot is made of plastic that looks really nice at first but stains brown after only a week or two of use. This makes the coffee maker look old, and doesn’t change even with daily cleanings.
A good friend of mine owns the next model up from this one. The one with the fancy timer and all the buttons. She is always having to use pipe cleaners to clean the spout because it dispenses the coffee too slowly.

I think this is the best coffee maker i have ever owned for the money. I love the concept and have always hated dealing with glass pots at the office.
