Ham Radio for Dummies by Ward Silver (2004, Paperback)

I purchased this book off e-bay as they are inexpensive compared to other books that cost 100% more or higher. While there are updated versions, you should be able to pass the test after reading this book. After being in Radio Control model airplanes for many years where Ham frequencies can be used I thought I would go ahead and get a Ham license. This book pretty much gives you everything you need to know to pass the Technician class license, if you master Mores Code which I already knew you can get a Tech Plus license that allows you to use several other Ham bands. Code learning tapes are also available on e-bay at a low cost. Code is easy to learn. If you are really interested in getting into Ham I recommend you also look at the ARRL License Manual available at all Ham radio shops.

The book I purchased arrived in a timely manner and in new condition as advertised. I have found this to be true with most of my purchases on e-bay. One thing I will add to this hobby. Ham Radio like Radio Control model airplanes can be expensive. Buying used equipment is risky so I recommend you buy new. Your local hobby shop can help you with what you need in equipment at the best possible price. There are also many Ham Radio clubs that will also be helpful. Consider mobil or base stations, many Ham radios do both. Happy dit dahing.

I THINK ALL THE "FOR DUMMIES" BOOKS ARE PRETTY WELL DONE. THEY USE HUMOR TO HOLD YOUR ATTENTION. THIS BOOK IS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR BEGINNERS I THINK. I'VE BEEN DOING THIS AWHILE BUT I ALSO READ SOME TIPS AND IDEAS I HADN'T THOUGHT OF OR HAD THOUGHT OF IN A DIFFERENT WAY. I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR GOOD IDEAS. THIS BOOK HAS SOME.

I ordered this book for my husband, who is trying to get set up as a HAM operator. Being seniors, our learning capacity isn't always the best, like when we were teen-agers. :S I like the way the dummies books break down information into easy-to-understand segments, but I didn't like the fact that the book we received was the 2004 edition. I didn't see this in the original posting or I wouldn't have ordered it. The contents are out-dated. Other than that, we were happy with the way the seller handled the transaction.

Everything turned out great. I was a little upset to see a sticker that said something like .49 cents on the book. Great idea though.

Excellent information for the beginner like me!!!!
The format is layed out very well.
Written on level that even the average person can understand.

Good reference book, easily read, well written and simplified terms. The perfect companion for any beginner ham and excellent reference book for all the Elmer's out there.

All the Dummies books I've read have been very useful. I'm already on chapter three and have learned a lot.
