Half Broke Horses
Review created: 12/05/09(updated 12/05/09)
My book club chose to read Half Broke Horses. We never trust a book review alone. Someone in our own club has to have read it and then we vote whether to read it or not. We had already read the Glass Castle and loved it. We thought it would be interesting to read about the good grandmother whose house the family in the Glass Castle had left in Arizona to go to visit family members in the mining territory back East.
It is interesting to see how Jeanette Walls describes her family's experiences in such positive terms, even though the reader can determine poverty, some mental instabilities, and, at times, lack of good parental judgment. Yet there is love, concern, humor, adventure, and above all, imagination, interwoven in her life experiences. I am drawn to the author's voice, and or, style of writing.
