Hairspray (DVD, 2007, Widescreen)

My whole family loves this movie.

We think that it was very cute and very funny. Nikki is so pretty and did a great job, Amanda Bynes with her constant lollipop was absolutely adorable, Zac is just plain cute (from a 'mom' perspective). I loved John and Christopher. I think the funniest part was John Travolta. Every time he opened his mouth we sat there and laughed. The whole cast had us laughing. I would loved to have smacked Brittany right up-side the head-- and that means she did a great job. Michelle was right up there, too. smack, smack.

At the same time the movie did a great job of really hitting the truth of the prejudice against Heavy/overweight/obese people, and racism. People can be discriminated against because of their looks, and not their abilities. I really can't stand that.

Being overweight doesn't equal ugly, untalented, and unacceptable anymore than does being white make one better than anyone else. It means that the rest of mankind needs to "get over it and get a life". Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and sometimes the beholder is the "ugly" one, as shown in the movie. I hope people enjoy this movie, laugh a lot, and still learn from it.

I really loved the fact that Nikki and Amanda were "blind". Black/white, thin/thick. It doesn't matter, and I liked that it was shown in the end.

This is a very good and fun remake. The songs are pitch perfect. Good Morning Baltimore anyone??

I had such a fondness for the original cast though. I have a tough time not trying to think about them. Mink Stole, Ricki Lake, Sunny Bono, and of course DIVINE!!

I think this is a fun film. It has been made a little more tame than anything Waters would have ever done, but that's alright.

It's solid and good fun, but I still recommend the original!

Just when I thought I'd never see a really cute movie again, along came the second remake of the 1988 film Hairspray, originally directed by none other than John Waters. You've got to remember the old one to really appreciate this one even though the first one had some really big stars such as Sonny Bono & Deborah Harry as the parents.

We have to go back in time to the year 1962 again and pick up where the teenager Tracy Turnblad and her friend Penny Pingleton are watching the Corny Collins show and dreaming of how they could really fit into that scene. Tracy gets a chance to dance on the show and the rest is history. Her dancing skills attract Corny Collins, but also the attention of teenage heart throb, Link Larkin. But not everyone is happy with the decision to have her dance on the show. The shows manager, Velma von Tussle (Michelle Phieffer) will do anything to get Tracy kicked off the show, even if it has to include Tracy's parents of new friends Seaweed and Motormouth Maybelle.

Although we faced various racial issues back then, we start to believe that integration may just as well be the way of the future after all if everyone would just all get along together. We also are face with having to realize that all our petty prejudices about looks, race, and body size are really so unimportant and immature that we should have these sorts of feeling towards one another. Thanks John Waters for making the second film possible and flashing us in your cameo as well.

I give this a 4/5 because it's fun to watch and very cute.

I was a young teen in the sixties, so when this movie came out I had several good reasons for wanting to see it. First, I wanted to see John Travolta as a female, goodness I was not disappointed. Secondly, I wanted to revisit that era and see what the directors and writers had captured again; I was not disappointed. And lastly I just wanted to smile and related to the cast. This movie makes you smile, reminds you of the struggles this [our culture] have gone through both in segregation and de-segregation, and it simply shows us how sometimes music and dance can eradicate the invisible lines dividing us. I enjoyed this movie on so many levels and was able to share this with a 9 year old boy I care for so now he also understands the issues the movie touched on. For there was more than one type a racism in this movie ... and they were all handled very nicely.

Absolutely delightful, one of the best musicals I have seen in a long time. The costumes are true to the period as well as the style of music. All the characters (even villains) are likeable. Everything about the film is well orchestrated (if you will forgive the pun). Anyone who grew up during the 50s will probably adore this film and the moral it portrays. Uplifting, spectacular and magnificent. Definitely a four-star film !

I had only seen previews of this movie and they made me want to buy it. The product I received was great and was sent fast. This is a great movie! A must-see movie! I am very pleased with my purchase. Thank you.

My daughters & I love this movie. Its a family friendly movie, loads of fun, great cast and music - and I usually hate musical! I thought I wouldn't be able to sit through watching John Travolta in drag, but he did a great job in his role. I highly recommend it to anyone.

The good guys come out on top. I love Queen Latifah in this movie - Long Live the Queen! A nice, not too sentimental look at the fifties that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

This is a fun movie but not as good as I expected. Not one of Travoltas best performances. it is fun to watch but not a great piece of artistry.

I loved the new sound this cast brought to this well known musical. The dancing was incredible, and it showed that dancing is about DANCING, not looking good, not showing off, just moving because the beat gets you there. For me to actually go out and buy a movie after I've rented it.. it has to be EXCELLENT.

I bought Hairspray in December, and I was very pleased with the quality of the movie, along with the fast shipping too. I have not had any problems with this DVD, and it's like brand new. I rated it excellent because it's like buying a new movie for a much cheaper price than going to Wal Mart.

This movie was excellent. The singing isnt what I enjoyed, but the comedy. It was fantastic! John Travolta as a woman is silly. It was cute. I really enjoyed the good clean fun.

i have no clue what this movie is like because i havent recieved it yet. it has been 3 weeks and i have tried to make contact with the seller but no returns i think that most of his negative feedback is right that he is a fake. i dont expect to recive it.

Great musical, "Hairspray" was perfect for the family. Music, dancing and comedy all made for a great evening. Must buy or rent!

I love using e-bay for purchases from A-Z. I decided to buy this dvd as oppose to going to the store, don't like waiting for a sales clerk with sometimes taking 15/20 minutes or longer. Great to click a button getting the dvd in a few days. (In pefect shape) (no problems) Gereat!!!!

I just loved John Travolta as the mom and the dancing was great. I was totaly amazed that he could dance in the costume. He really made a believable mom.

Hairspray is exciting and fun movie to watch with the family. The film was better then the 1995 versin with Ricki Lake.

I loved this movie. I rented it and after watching it I wanted to see it again so I decided to buy it. I don't buy many movies but when I find one that I know I'll enjoy many times it's worth it for me to have it in my collection. I borrowed it to my sister and can't wait to get it back to watch again. The music was terrific, the characters - wonderful. the story - great.

I like musicals and I bought it because the bid price was right. There is nothing I don't like about it. There were no scratches, like new condition. It was shipped very fast. I enjoy bidding for things I want on E-bay.

thanks. Good Movie Have 5 grandchildren that I need to keep together and movies does the trick. I decided to start collecting movies so when I babysit they stay together. They are all under the age of ten.

I never rec'd the movie despite a tracking number given. Communication was poor...and I ordered this before about 1 1/2 weeks before Christmas. I would not order from this seller again. In order to receive any communication I opened a grievance through PayPal.

I was a little disappointed in this movie. I was expecting more from John Travolta in dancing. I bought it because of the advertising - but it didn't deliver as I expected.

Well I wasn't expecting much out of this movie but once I watched it I was hooked. I was so impressed by the super catchy songs and the urge to get up and dance. This movie is so catchy that you will most likely want to buy some of the songs from the movie from itunes or wherever. Fantastic A-List Cast too, I was so happy to discover that this movie starred not only John Travolta and Amanda Bynes, but James Marsden, Christopher Walken and Michelle Pfeiffer too. A great story and is recommended to all!!
