Good camera for the casual photographer

The HP PhotoSmart camera is everything you would expect from an entry level, point and shoot camera. It's not bad, but not great. Taking a picture is as easy as sliding the shutter open and pressing the button, unless you're indoors or at dusk. The self adjusting flash has a mind of its own and can take a wide variety and varying quality of pictures when taking several pictures of the same thing in the same lighting, just seconds apart. Forget about close up pictures; anything closer than 3 feet is a blur. The pictures are photo quality only in the best resolution at a safe distance. The interface is a bit hard to manuever, but adequate. On the positive, it is pretty durable. I have a bad tendancy of dropping things, and this camera has never always been a trooper. Overall, it's "OK" but if you're looking for "better than average," keep looking.
