Remaining loyal to their soulful roster, Universal Records found yet another one of these deep, classic soul-type cats. Having already written and produced songs for Chico DeBarge and Blackstreet, Jack Knight decided that it was his turn to be a performer, debuting with his own solo album GYPSY BLUES. The art here lies in Knight's songwriting, an added bonus to the album's powerful performances and tight production. On the lyrical tip, Knight does more than just keep it real, he keeps it raw. Don't confuse "Best Friend" with the Brandy ode to friendship. Sounding as freaky as The Artist, Knight confesses to what is considered by women to be one of man's worst sins: falling in love with one's girlfriend's best friend. GYPSY BLUES' combination of funk, soul, R&B, gospel, and pop music puts Jack in the same class with some of urban pop's greats.
