Gun (PlayStation 2, 2005)

Gun is a fun Wild-West style video game.

Pros:
- Good "Western" Atmosphere
- Freedom to ride and explore wherever you want
- Many fun missions, such as bounties, sheriff and more
- Good Controls
- Astonishing Landscape
- Great Story
- Large variety of weapons

Cons:
- Story is too short
- Some graphics to exagerated with gore/blood (Scalping??)
- Most missions are too easy, the rest are too hard

It's just a rental. Good story and good graphics, not much replay value. If you were into Red Dead Revolver then this game is definetelly a rental. If you are considering buying this game, I suggest you rent it first and notice that it's not worth the big bucks. To me this is Red Dead Revolver with better graphics and a side story.

Graphics 9/10 -

Awesome graphics for a PlayStation 2 game. Unbelievably detailed terrains compliment the rustic buildings. The people's mouths move in sync with the words, all the body movements are fluid. Great animations in this game. By far superior to Red Dead Revolver. Other games, such as Shadow of the Colossus, obviously has better graphics, but this game holds its own in the battle for realism.

Story 8/10 -

At first when I put the disc in the tray and eagerly sat back into my chair and listened to the story I thought "The hell...I'm lost!" But, over time, the story becomes clear. I don't like spoiling games, so I won't go into detail. But it's nothing original or new, however it is well executed. Plus it is open ended. Which sums up to hours of endless fun.

Gameplay 9/10 -

Excellent gameplay. Smooth controls! This is quite possibly one of the smoothest games I've played in awhile. Whether shooting in first or third person views you will hit your target. If the reticle is red, so will your enemy's shirt soon enough. As far as level designs go...It's nothing special. It's two cities; Dodge City, Kansas and Empire, New Mexico. Those two cities are separated by an expanse of...well...emptiness. A few caverns, herds of buffalo, some wolves...Kind of empty.

Difficulty level -

Not really a ranked category...But I thought I'd throw it in here for one reason: THIS GAME PISSED ME OFF! It takes a lot of patience only because this game is a large escort mission mixed in with some action. Be it escorting a wagon, protecting some one, or escorting some cows or a rancher...It takes patience, like I said. I actually broke a small table in my room because of the frustration. It's quite hard. Even on easy... Although it can be frustrating and it takes several retries, it's a short game. I beat it in a day.

Playing this game reminds me of playing cowboys and indians as a kid, and just as much fun. This is more realistic as far as behaviors when it comes to the things you can do in the game.. There will be no "you cant really do that" moments.. Gameplay is very smooth and consistent. If you lookin for a good cowboy shooter.. Here's your sign.

This was the best western video game I have come across. The graphics were excellant, the storyline was good and the action fast and furious. Although some dislike in game instructions and tips, I found them very helpful. But be warned...this game is very graphic and bloody!

Let's start with the positives: Gun is a very pretty game, with lots of great scenery and attention to detail. It is also easy to learn and a lot of fun to play.

However, the game has a few problems. First, it is one of those games that you can breeze through the entire thing only dying a few times, but at the end the "boss" is extremely difficult and takes many tries to finally defeat. Second, it's extremely short - even playing all the side missions it does not provide a very long playing experience. Also, it is completely linear. You go from a to b to c without ever making a decision or having to alter your strategy. Nothing affects the storyline, so you merely hop from one movie to the next.

All in all, I would suggest renting the game for $6 rather than buying it for $50. I finished with it in two days of semi-serious play, and still had five days left over before i needed to return it.

It's a pretty game, and entertaining while you're playing it, but in the end it doesn't really seem worth the money.

Thats all its good for. Its ok the first time. But it has no replay value. The graffics are not that good the story is ok. Like I said if you really want to check it out rent it do not buy.

I'm a big graphics lover. This game has great graphics! I don't care what anyone says, if you're not using cheats, it's rough to beat. Once you figure things out though...it kinda goes smooth and does end quickly, but what game doesn't? If you're in to Old Westerns...you'll love it. Major gamers may find it "ho-hum"...but most major gamers find 75% of games "ho-hum". If your an average person who just plays games when the spirit moves or to pass time and enjoy it, you'll really have a great time with it. I loved it.

This was a all time fav of mine, I liked red dead revolver but this beats it all down to the ground.

I received it as a gift and thought "Hey a new game that's a western that's different". It was AWESOME!!! This is one of the best games I've played.

This game takes you back to the time when there was cowboys and indians. You get all the excitement of playing poker, hunting down outlaws, riding as part of the pony express, digging for gold, and fighting off bandits. I find games this exciting and authentic are hard to find now a days. Getting the hang of the controls are a little hard at first but once you get them you better hold on cause there is so much to do and a lot of land to cover. Be careful of shooting or running over innocent civilians with your horse because you will have a riot on your hands, they will come after you guns a blazing.

The only down side to this game is there is some bad language, wich means it may not be recomended for your young kids, I always thought they should make a game similar to this one but aimed towards the young ones or the whole family. Maybe in the future we will see something so great in that direction.

I thought this was a great game. Very wonderful graphics, fun riding the horses around and looking for gold to mine! A little gorey and the game is fast to beat, but I rate it a 5 because it was fun.

The reason why it is graded good is because the story plot is great, there are no flaws in the graphicss, and the gameplay is great. The on ly problem is that the game is fast to beat including all the side missions done.

It was very easy to learn the controls. The graphics are good (a little violent) The story line is great. But the side missions are just as fun. The best part of the game is the horse back riding!! It feels very real. The game allows you a lot of freedom of movement and an opportunity to explore. You really feel like you are in the "OLD WEST". The only negative for me was the graphic violence. It is a litte "bloody". Maybe not a good by for small kids.

I'd give it a 5 but that goes with the one small part of the game that annoyed me: too much like an arcade game. It seems the makers of it were split with making a epic western genre game or a insane shooter genre game. Either way it seems they passed on both aspects, it achieved in the western genre with the amazing storyline and cinematography at the beginning of the game. Though it also achieved with the insane shooter genre with the "zoom" option it has which makes it easy to switch between "bad guys" similar to that as in the GTA series and the Getaway (both first and second) where you can do the "auto-aim". This option does that but at a zoomed look so it's easier to spot the next one in view unlike just "auto-aim" though obviously you don't see the whole area but at least you have more choices when you switch since you can see them easier (headshot or just body for example). My opinion: good game, great presentation.

Love this game! Awesome game play; love the freedom to choose which mission to play. Plays almost like Grand Theft Auto with how you can move around in the world and not have to be in a mission. Just wish it were longer. They could have done so much more with the western theme, more side missions with all sorts of tasks. But never the less this is an awesome game to play very addictive.

I really like the graphics and the game overall. It is just really short. It is still one of my favorite games though. Really fun if you like the old west

Perhaps one of the best games I've played. Awesome graphics, even when played on regular tv. Definately a must-have game.

The last mission was kind of hard. It took me many tries and I thought I could never do it but there is a way and I was fully satisfied with this game. One of the best PS2 games I've ever played. Unique western. Tons of mission. And even after the game end you can still do missions. It seems as if I never ends. I never rode a real hours but this game as sure got me hype. I promise, this is a must-have!

My son had been trying to find this game in the stores after playing it at a friend's house. We found the game on Ebay at a reasonable price. Saved money by doing it this way. It was convenient and he got what he was looking for! The game is fun, exciting and challenging. Watch for a lot of violence and rough talk though.
