Gun Dog by Richard A. Wolters (1961, Hardcover)

Great book. A little old-school but lots of interesting stuff in there, I read it in one sitting and I've referred to it countless times. I'd recommend it to anyone who would like to read what Wolters did.

This is a very easy book to read and understand. Very good pictures and excellent instruction on how to train a dog to point. I have used this book several times on different dogs. The results are the same. They are ready to point and retrieve on command in six months. If you are an average guy with minimal time to train a dog, this is the book to have. It walks you though, step by step and at each stage of the dog. If you are getting a puppy, get this book first. You will need it from day one.

Despite the publication date of this book, or perhaps because of it, this is the definitive book on working with your birding dog. Wolters techniques stand true over time because hunters and dogs still interact the same. I highly recommend this book. It has been read and reread by the two hunters in our house.

I really like how the author writes. I bought this book for my 13 year old son so that he could have a better understanding when he trains his Labrador Retriever.

We wanted to buy this product in perhaps getting a few pointers to help train our new puppy...however, after having purchased this product, the person of interest with whom we bought this particular book took our money and "ran" so to speak...and yes it was already paid for. I can't honestly review the book itself because we NEVER received the book...oh well guess you'll have days like that.
