Run by members of the esteemed underground outfit the Sun City Girls, the Sublime Frequencies imprint is dedicated to issuing thrillingly unvarnished musical output from all corners of the world. GUITARS FROM AGADEZ captures the Group Bombino, a rugged Tuareg guitar ensemble from the deserts of Niger, tearing through a set of coruscating desert blues that will be familiar to fans of similar ensembles like Group Inerane and the slightly more polished Tinariwen. The first half of the record consists of field recordings of the group performing acoustic numbers in Niger's Tenere desert, while the second half features a handful of ferocious, fully amplified studio recordings.

Editorial Reviews
[A]n incandescent display....[With] raw, stomping grooves and a closer that works toward a trance-inducing dervish of chords and rebel yells.
Spin

[The acoustic side] sounds more spacious, the better to appreciate Bombino's stinging, economical guitar leads and urgent singing.
