Guitar Player Repair Guide by Dan Erlewine (1994, Paperback, Subsequent Edition)

Nearly anything you need to know to upgrade or repair your acoustic or electric guitar can be found in this book. Essential for any musicial do-it-yourselfer.
Highly recommended.

My Epiphone explorer wasn't working and I knew it had something to do with the electrics near the output jack, so instead of throwing $100 or more to go to a guitar mechanic, I figured I'll just go on eBay and try to find a book that shows me how to fix it myself. I bought this book, went home, and - using the diagrams and explanations of the inside of a guitar - I simply took apart and put back together the whole guitar.... and the guitar worked again like it was brand new!!! Definately saved a lot of money by NOT having to go to a guitar repair shop. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a overly detailed explanation of the make-up and complexities of the inners of a guitar, both electric and acoustic.

Erlewine puts his experience to paper showing most of the major & minor problems your likely to run in to. He describes how to fix a problem from nearly all directions and then tells you how he would do it. One of the best parts of all this is helping you avoid costly mistakes. It's pretty thorough & quite conprehensive. He's quite good at explaining things so it's easy to understand his explanations, almost like he's talking you through a problem. I like all his products on guitar repair and setup and know anyone who uses these will benefit in a major way.

i like the info in it. has a little more general info than the new 3rd edition. would be a good companion to the 3rd edition. like it a little more than the third edition.

Dan Erlewine has been around for a long time and has more root level knowledge about guitars than most could ever even imagine. Any book by him is well worth the money. Guitar Player is one of the foremost guitar magazines in the world ( I subscribe and have been reading it since the early '70's.

This guide in particular is formatted in a very easy to find main section, ranging from stone cold beginner to advanced luthier. Language and explanations are easy to follow.

If anyone has a desire to work on guitars or just have the knowledge to maintain one at it's peak level, this one will be with you for quite a while!!!
