Guitar Hero World tour review (Parents need to know)
Review created: 11/10/08

Parents need to know that this is a sequel in the mega-popular Guitar Hero series. Some of the lyrics might raise an eyebrow as being sexually suggestive. Also, some of the female musicians that aren't wearing much clothes onstage.

Families can talk about whether these music games have hit its stride or its peak? Are the changes in games like the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series enough to justify the purchase or is it worth just downloading new songs each week?

GUITAR HERO: WORLD TOUR is the sequel to the best-selling video game of 2007 (Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock). This new version adds drums and vocals to last year's game that was all about playing on the guitar and bass, along with a tour bus-full of new modes and features. For the uninitiated, these music games let you play along to hit rock songs on a plastic guitar, a drum kit peripheral, or sing in a microphone, and you must hit the right note/drum at the correct time in order to rack up points. Perform well and the virtual crowd claps to the beat, but make too many flubs and you might just get booed offstage. When it comes to instruments, the Guitar Hero: World Tour drums has two raised cymbals along with the three main pads and bass drum pedal, resembling a real kit. The newly-designed wireless guitar looks and feels great, and offers extra buttons for improv play and special effects, if desired. The wired microphone provides clear sound for the singer in your group.

After you watch the first of many entertaining animated sequences, you can select from a number of single-player, co-op or head-to-head game modes. A new rock star creator lets you customize the look of your virtual musician before entering a lengthy Career mode that lets players swap instruments as they progress through the story (or choose to stick with one); the Band Career options allows you to join or host an online band with other players. Or why not compete in an online competition – four against four – to see how many points your band can collectively rack up against a rival super group? As with Guitar Hero III, players who dual guitars on the same TV can unleash "battle attacks" to trip up an opponent such as causing a string to break or flipping the left and right buttons.

  Fun Game!

My husband wanted this game, so of course we got it the day it came out. He had Legends of Rock for Wii and I didn't like most of the song selections in that game, i thought it was too metal for me. I like the Guitar Hero World Tour because there is a wider variety of songs to play, from Rock to Alternative to Reggae and more! The songs are just better!

I also thought i would like to play guitar because i took it up years ago, but after trying the drum set on this game, I choose to play drums everytime we get this game out! Though the guitar looks fun, i just cant figure out how to move my fingers fast enough, so for me, the drums are my thing!

We brought this out at a party we had the other night, and it was a lot of fun because on person chose to play bass, one wanted guitar, 2 girls wanted to sing, and i wanted to play drums. It was a lot of fun having a whole band of people joining in, and was a great conversation piece!

The only thing i don't like about the set is that sometimes the foot pedal for the drums fails to pick up when you tap it. I have found that you have to lean your body into it on the beat for it to work most of the time, but this works maybe 90% of the time.

Also cool that you can compose your own music and offer it to anyone else in the wii community! We played a cheesy version of "Jingle Bells" that someone had composed, but it is neat that you can do this. If anyone writes music in their basement, this would be a great platform to share your jam with the rest of the world! Who knows, maybe you'll sell more records (or downloads now) because of it??

Overall, its a very fun game, and I would definitely recommend it to others! Great way to get friends and family involved in adult play time!

Fun for the Whole Family - Better than Rock Band!

This is an awesome system. I received my first Guitar Hero World Tour the day it was released! Absolutely the best fun! And you can learn from it as well. I have friends fighting over who gets to play next. The old guitar from the previous Guitar Hero works great - but the new system has so many more options. I can't say more about it! Everyone will enjoy this system. So much more music to choose from - So many more options - and you can design you own music! What fun!

I like the product for the eye coordination. Bought it for the kids.Thought the prouduct has a little of inappropiate situations for younger age group this game is actually what works for eye exercises that alot of children need including my own.I can see this unit will save me money in not buying a real drum set unless my children get really into it and ask for the real set, the same is with the guitar.

Guitar Hero - complete band game for WII

What I like about this game is it gets all of us together in one room, playing together and having a lot of fun and laughs. This is an excellent addition to your Wii game. My only complaint would be it would be nice if it had more newer songs on it, but then I also realize that most of the newer songs are inappropriate for children and even teens. There is a pretty good mix of old songs that almost everyone knows or has heard at one time or another. As a family we are having a blast!!!!

I really liked the tightness and the innovation of the instruments. Its fun playing the songs together. I didnt like the fact that you need a wiimote for each instrument since they are wireless. I also think they need more downloadable tracks. I liked the song selection though its not as accessible to the casual crowd. The singing needs a little work too. If you are looking for a cheap alternative to rockband this is your game. Its fun but the setlist is hardcore. I would suggest getting an SD card for 5 bucks to save the songs on that you download because they take up alot of memory. I would recommend this.. its a great party game and will be screaming at the TV with the difficulty but laughing at how easy it is.

Love the game. Did not rerealize when I bought it that I would need a controller for using the microphone. I wish they would make a country version of the game. We really enjoy playing as a family.

I like that it allows more then one player. For first timers it would be great with better set up instructions as it took awhile to figure it out. Also more instructions on how to play instruments, but I guess with time will find it easier. Well made components including a drum set guitar & microphone. Look forward to adding another guitar.

There were several pieces missing like instructions on how to put it together, but pretty self explanatory. There was a minor piece or two that were broken, made a work around. Otherwise in excellent condition and fast prompt service. Would recommend this site to any one purchasing open box products.

With the Wii you have to order a 3rd controller if you want more than 2 players with someone on the Mic. You can still play 1 or 2 players with one of the controllers used for the microphone. Otherwise I am very satisfied with my purchase. Thanks.

Great price, but had issues with the drum set. Drum pads very sensitive and had to replace 4 out of 5 before they would work. Not sure if they were defective from factory or something happened during shipping. Everything else works great. It's been lots of fun since we got it all working.

Love the simplicity and that all our kids no matter what age enjoys the instruments and music. Notes of music are easy to understand, instruments are easy to handle. Lyrics could be a little larger for us vision impaired folks but sitting close makes for good laughs with the guests.

Tons of fun! Only problem is you have to hit the drum really hard for it to register and you need a third remote for you to use the drums the guitar and the mic at the same time.

Great Game instruments are faulty from manufacturer
Review created: 04/03/09
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have been a fan of guitar hero since it's conception on the first game with the very difficult to play on engine. With every game they upgrade the quality and ease to play the game but it seems that their instruments seem to get lower in quality. With the arrival of the guitar that breaks down into 2 pieces there came many defects with it. Yes it makes it easier to transport if you wanna go play with a friend but if you tilt the guitar wrong some of the buttons don't work or if you're double picking to vigorously the bounce back registers an extra strum action that you didn't wanna do killing your note streak. the drum kits themselves are just too much of a pain to even wanna use and 75% of the time you'll get a faulty set. If you are mechanically inclined all of the repairs and alterations aren't too difficult to do yourself but you can always wait 4-6 weeks and send it off to activision and have them repair it for you. I'm impatient so I like to do things myself. Overall it's a great game but for the price you pay I would suggest that you only get it on ebay.com or amazon.com because the retail price is just too much to gamble with because it's a very good chance you'll get a faulty unit.

My children purchased the first game with one guitar and requested the drums and micro. and E-Bay is the only way to go to find what you want and at the price you want. The added bonus of no shipping was heaven.
Thank you again for the quick turn around. The package arrived quickly.

Puschased this after buying the Wii for my kids for Christmas. Best game I've ever bought! My wife and I can play right along with the kids (12 and 13 years old), and we often play for a couple hours or so on a Friday or Saturday night. The music is great, and the drums ROCK! We've started a "parents" competition with other friends, which is a riot. You will not be sorry for buying!!!!

I love that the whole family can play together. My son is five and he can play on the beginner setting. I dislike some of the images of the rockers, but I can easily get over that. We decided to purchase it after playing World Tour with our neighbors. I feel like this was a great purchase for the price.
