Guitar Hero III... True to form but disappointing

With the Next Gen of gaming usually comes completly new ideas in game sequels. This is somewhat the case for GH3, but it skimps out on some things that make GH a truely innovative franchise.
There are some preserved aspects of GH3. As a true Guitar Hero fanatic I've given many hours playing and mastering each of the titles, and one of the main things preserved and enhanced was the playability of the songs, and the actual setlist has been improved upon. I was impressed at the ease of hammer-ons and pull-offs, and the idea of bumping up the overall difficulty of the game, someone who beat GH2 or 80's on expert couldn't just pick GH3 and beat expert. It's hard, and that's a plus. some other plusses to GH3 are: Battle mode where you can face the computer or a human where star power is actually disabling action that stops the other player from advancing for a while, and the goal is to make the other player lose by halting their playing for enough time, co-op mode for playing simultaniously through the setlist with a friend, improved grahpics, new characters and guitars, huge assortment of songs!
Now for the bad :) It's not that guitar hero 3 does anything "bad", it's that it's the same thing we've played over and over, without anything truely amazing. It wasn't really a "whoa" game, and I felt the same throughout the game. Another thing dissapointing is that the new battle mode songs cant be just played, they have to be battled. call me picky but that was one thing I felt as a bummer. One minor thing I found wrong also was that the learning curve of the game was very sharp, and that can be a problem with Guitar Hero. Last but not least, it seems the game to repeat what has been done before... that's it. Guitar hero 1 was amazing. Guitar hero 2 was phonominal because it took something great and completely made it better, adding new ideas and song values. Then Guitar hero 3 comes along and it's guitar hero 2 with pretty graphics and improved playability, not much else...
All-in-all, GH3 isn't NEARLY as sorry as Guitar Hero Rocks the 80's, but it's not living up to its previous installments, GH1 and 2. I still highly recommend it, especially for a next gen system. I hope I was helpful and not too horrible picky :) I love guitar hero and respect the efforts of enhancement put into the game!
