Graphics - 8/10
For what the game is, you are not buying this game to play for the graphics – though Activision was able to make the animations more vibrant, and a more noticeable experience.

Sound – 10/10
The track list for this game, along with the original recordings (including the reunited Sex Pistols!) is a must have. You will get lost in involvement when playing this game. This is one of the best soundtracks in a game to date.

Gameplay – 9/10
Though under new “ownership”, Activision has taken this game this game down a similar road, but with a new car. With slight improvements in the display hud, the notifications of streaks, and the “star power” activators easier to get, this game is fun. Plain and simple.

Replay Value - 10/10
It will hard not to play this game over and over. This is a worthy sequel.

Overall - 9/10
There are a few new tweaks to the actual gameplay, and it feels a bit easier to play (except some of the very final songs), but this game follows the old saying “if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it”. The song list, along with the new guitar, is stellar. With all the original, or master, tracks that are in this game, it is hard not to enjoy this game if you are a fan of rhythm or music games.

The new wireless “Gibson” guitar is heavier, more durable, and the closest thing to a real guitar peripheral that I have felt. I must say that this is a nice controller, and I did not want to put it down. I applaud Activision’s attention to detail. I highly recommend this bundle.

Overall this game receives about a 6/10. Let's break it down...

Graphics - 6/10
Come on...I can see bumpers smashing in racing games, more blood than I care to see in shooter games, and even chocolate bubbling in the pond in a children's game... and I can't get better graphics than this for my favorite XBox 360 game? Better luck on Guitar Hero 4. The one improvement I have enjoyed is the better display hud (your score).

Sound – 10/10
Some of the songs aren't the greatest sound quality (like Boston) but the sound is as good as Guitar Hero predecessors. Overall the track list was top notch. I'd love to see some more popular songs for some of my less savvy classic rock friends, but overall the music is great and will keep you rocking all night long.

Overall - 9/10
Judging this game against Guitar Hero 1 and 2, it is a better game and worthy of a sequel. However, judging it against the new Rock Band... it loses some appeal because Rock Band offers more options for more people (mic and drums). If you're looking for a game that will give you awesome songs, lots of fun for all skill levels, and a 4-player mode, you should go with Rock Band. (note: the Rock Band guitar sucks so you'll want to use a Guitar Hero guitar)

The new wireless Gibson guitar that comes in the Guitar Hero 3 package is a must have. It's a little easier to hold than previous guitars, I think the buttons are slightly easier to use, and although I thought being wireless might affect some play I can't notice any lag or difficulties.

Excellent game... looking forward to a sequel.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Playstation 2)

"The best Guitar Hero yet."
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the fourth game in the Guitar Hero series, and not only is it the best Guitar Hero so far, it may very well be the most fun music game of all time.

The obvious place to start is the song list. For me, that makes or breaks a music game. Odds are, almost everyone who played the first three games in the series (Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's), can point out at least one or two songs that simply do not belong in a guitar game. Not so with Legends. With such classic rock staples as KISS, Heart, ZZ Top, and Aerosmith, along with newer bands such as Slipknot and Disturbed, and the highly demanded Metallica and Slayer, this song list could not be better. Add that to the fact that most of the songs are Master Tracks, and you have the best sounding music game ever.

Next up, the gameplay. Put simply, it's top-notch. Using the new Kramer guitar controller, you hold down the appropriate fret button and strum the note as it passes. Same gameplay as the last few games, but with a few added modes. The first one worth noting is the new Battle mode. You and a friend will play through a song, although instead of the normal Star Power, you get Battle Power. Basically, these are attacks that you can throw at your competitor in order to make them miss and fail the song. Co-op play returns as well, but in the form of a separate career, complete with six encore songs that can ONLY be unlocked in co-op.

Sadly, Co-op play is where this game's one big flaw is apparent. There is no longer a Co-op Quick Play option. You must play through the tiers of a co-op career. Once you beat all of the songs, you unlock everything else from the Single Player career for play. The problem is, though, that you can only play on the difficulty combination in which you originally unlocked the songs. In other words, if you beat the career with an Expert-Hard combo, you have to do the career yet again in order to play the songs on Medium or Easy (or with a Hard-Hard or Expert-Expert combo).

Other than that complaint, there is nothing else wrong with Guitar Hero III. The graphics are fantastic (although no match for it's next-gen counterparts), the songs are even more challenging than anything from the previous games, and the battle mode (including the single-player battles against Slash and Tom Morello) is probably the most fun I have had out of any video game in quite a while.

Final score: 9.5/10

  Guitar Hero III Review

The process is very easy to do, and the guitar works well. Though it’s somewhat impractical for gameplay, I took the guitar about 30 feet away from the console while I was playing a song—with metal cubicle walls in between—and the controller never fluttered or broke connection once. It does seem to go through AA batteries in a couple of days of heavy play, so you may want to get some rechargables to save your wallet a bit.

The guitar also has a standard wireless headset jack, which makes it easy to chat during the multiplayer modes. We’ll discuss them in a bit, but rest assured that the headset also works like a charm when connected to the guitar, so you have some freedom of movement, if you choose.

Outside of that, the controls are essentially the same as the previous guitar, though the Back and Start Buttons have been increased on these new Les Paul replicas, which makes it easier to kick in Star Power (if you choose to do that in place of rocking the guitar up) or pausing the game.

(A quick note—or gripe, if you will—about pausing in GH3. I don’t understand why, if you pause in the middle of a song, unpausing should immediately start at full speed right where you paused, which makes it nearly impossible to avoid missing notes. If this was being treated like a true song rehearsal, you’d get counted back into the action. I make this an open plea to add this kind of feature to the next version of GH, because otherwise it isn’t worth jumping back into a song, unless you happen to find an open gap in which to take your break. There, I’ve gotten that off my chest…)
The single-player gameplay is much the same as previous versions, with the main goal being to set up a “career,” select a difficulty (from four settings) and play through a song list one at a time, earning up to five stars for how well you were able to re-create the song’s note chart on your fret buttons. Here, there are 42 songs out of the box, though you’ll be able to “purchase” bonus songs now, as well as download additional songs via Xbox Live Marketplace soon enough, which will extend your song selection. GH3 has a Training mode where you can try out any of the songs and work on your prowess should you need to polish your play on specific portions.

The number of stars you get on a certain difficulty rewards you with in-game money; the better you do, the more you put in your bank—and you occasionally get a new sponsor who’ll kick a good sum in the direction of your band for touring and such. The money you earn can be used to buy new instruments and finishes, songs, playable characters and so on. And with GH3, you also earn money in the Easy career, which is helpful given the pricing of some objects.

Neversoft has strived to improve the song list, with numerous tracks being “master songs” that are created by the original band, not re-created in a recording studio somewhere by session musicians. These include a wide range of songs from “Paint It, Black” by Rolling Stone to Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” (which was re-recorded for specifically for the game) to “Knights of Cydonia” by Muse.

It’s important to note that, not all of the songs are that good. Some (such as “La Grange” and “Pride and Joy”) are facsimiles that just don’t capture the spirit of the original as well; others (such as The Killers’ “When We Were Young”) just don’t seem to belong in a game called Guitar Hero.
My Overall Rating- 8/10

Bundle Pack Review / Relive the 80's w/your kids!!
Review created: 11/15/07
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this for my 11 year old daughter for her birthday this past October. I purchased the "bundle deal" that comes with 2 guitar controllers and game, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The 2 guitars are great, for I also have a 13 year old daughter, and they can also rock out with a friend. They have played this game constantly. They both have a love for music, so they really enjoy this game. Not being a "gamer", this review will probably not help the "gamers" out there. I do know that it has a great soundtrack. There are over 70 rocking songs, to be exact. Everything from the 80's to early 90's. The guitar "controllers" are the white and red special edition for the bundle pack. It comes with customizable stickers so you can make your guitar unique. It is rated Teen, and I feel it appropriate for my 2 kids. I love the soundtrack because it takes me back...except for when my kids ask me if I "still remember this song?" It is cool to actually see my daughter jam out to the songs. And who can resist "Slash" appearing on screen. I would have been really excited if it had been Eddie Van Halen, but maybe next time....
Overall, this is a great gift for the teen scene. If you can still find the bundle (at electronics stores) or right here on e-bay!!!, it is a really great deal and to have the two controllers. I always tell my neighbors when they come over, "Welcome to the Jungle", and now my kids and I can spend time together to "Rock and Roll All Nite", because they are my "Pride and Joy"!
now if I could just find the ear plugs........

PS2 Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

GH III was a great Christmas gift for my 13 y.o. son. He and his 10 y.o. sister love to play it and compete against each other. I was able to find it cheaper than in dept stores and did not even have to go searching. Playing the game is much more interactive and exciting than just sitting and watching tv, and it is good for eye-hand coordination skills--it is not as easy as it looks. The kids love it!

Guitar Hero 3 has some pretty great gameplay, and great songs. It has more songs than guitar hero 2 and has better songs as well. Now after the craziness has died down, you might be able to get this game at an affordable price.
Overall great game, and highly recommended

This product came on time unlike the few other times I have ordered things online. Everything was in order and I got what I paid for. I would definitely purchase from this seller again.

  Horrible Service!!!

This seller does not reply back to e-mails and does not live up to his/her word on the exchange policy. I bought a Guitar Hero III from this seller and it didn't work. I paid them right away...within hours of winning the auction. As a customer, I expect to get good and honest service from a business just as anyone but did not get that from this business. I e-mailed the seller 5 days after I recieved it (the exchange policy is stated on his/her page for up to 7 days after recieving it). After not recieving a reply back I e-mailed them three more times and still have gotten nothing back. It is stated on their page that they answer e-mails within a day which is a total lie! Do not do business with this seller! You will be very unsatisfied with their business!!!! They will just take your money and run! BEWARE!!!!!!!
