Graphics - 8/10 For what the game is, you are not buying this game to play for the graphics – though Activision was able to make the animations more vibrant, and a more noticeable experience. Sound – 10/10 The track list for this game, along with the original recordings (including the reunited Sex Pistols!) is a must have. You will get lost in involvement when playing this game. This is one of the best soundtracks in a game to date. Gameplay – 9/10 Though under new “ownership”, Activision has taken this game this game down a similar road, but with a new car. With slight improvements in the display hud, the notifications of streaks, and the “star power” activators easier to get, this game is fun. Plain and simple. Replay Value - 10/10 It will hard not to play this game over and over. This is a worthy sequel. Overall - 9/10 There are a few new tweaks to the actual gameplay, and it feels a bit easier to play (except some of the very final songs), but this game follows the old saying “if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it”. The song list, along with the new guitar, is stellar. With all the original, or master, tracks that are in this game, it is hard not to enjoy this game if you are a fan of rhythm or music games. The new wireless “Gibson” guitar is heavier, more durable, and the closest thing to a real guitar peripheral that I have felt. I must say that this is a nice controller, and I did not want to put it down. I applaud Activision’s attention to detail. I highly recommend this bundle. Graphics - 6/10 Come on...I can see bumpers smashing in racing games, more blood than I care to see in shooter games, and even chocolate bubbling in the pond in a children's game... and I can't get better graphics than this for my favorite XBox 360 game? Better luck on Guitar Hero 4. The one improvement I have enjoyed is the better display hud (your score). Sound – 10/10 Some of the songs aren't the greatest sound quality (like Boston) but the sound is as good as Guitar Hero predecessors. Overall the track list was top notch. I'd love to see some more popular songs for some of my less savvy classic rock friends, but overall the music is great and will keep you rocking all night long. Overall - 9/10 Judging this game against Guitar Hero 1 and 2, it is a better game and worthy of a sequel. However, judging it against the new Rock Band... it loses some appeal because Rock Band offers more options for more people (mic and drums). If you're looking for a game that will give you awesome songs, lots of fun for all skill levels, and a 4-player mode, you should go with Rock Band. (note: the Rock Band guitar sucks so you'll want to use a Guitar Hero guitar) The new wireless Gibson guitar that comes in the Guitar Hero 3 package is a must have. It's a little easier to hold than previous guitars, I think the buttons are slightly easier to use, and although I thought being wireless might affect some play I can't notice any lag or difficulties. Excellent game... looking forward to a sequel. Review ID: 10000000006682592 Was this review helpful? Report this review Review created: 12/27/07 by: 7 of 7 people found this review helpful. "The best Guitar Hero yet." Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the fourth game in the Guitar Hero series, and not only is it the best Guitar Hero so far, it may very well be the most fun music game of all time. The obvious place to start is the song list. For me, that makes or breaks a music game. Odds are, almost everyone who played the first three games in the series (Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's), can point out at least one or two songs that simply do not belong in a guitar game. Not so with Legends. With such classic rock staples as KISS, Heart, ZZ Top, and Aerosmith, along with newer bands such as Slipknot and Disturbed, and the highly demanded Metallica and Slayer, this song list could not be better. Add that to the fact that most of the songs are Master Tracks, and you have the best sounding music game ever. Next up, the gameplay. Put simply, it's top-notch. Using the new Kramer guitar controller, you hold down the appropriate fret button and strum the note as it passes. Same gameplay as the last few games, but with a few added modes. The first one worth noting is the new Battle mode. You and a friend will play through a song, although instead of the normal Star Power, you get Battle Power. Basically, these are attacks that you can throw at your competitor in order to make them miss and fail the song. Co-op play returns as well, but in the form of a separate career, complete with six encore songs that can ONLY be unlocked in co-op. Sadly, Co-op play is where this game's one big flaw is apparent. There is no longer a Co-op Quick Play option. You must play through the tiers of a co-op career. Once you beat all of the songs, you unlock everything else from the Single Player career for play. The problem is, though, that you can only play on the difficulty combination in which you originally unlocked the songs. In other words, if you beat the career with an Expert-Hard combo, you have to do the career yet again in order to play the songs on Medium or Easy (or with a Hard-Hard or Expert-Expert combo). Other than that complaint, there is nothing else wrong with Guitar Hero III. The graphics are fantastic (although no match for it's next-gen counterparts), the songs are even more challenging than anything from the previous games, and the battle mode (including the single-player battles against Slash and Tom Morello) is probably the most fun I have had out of any video game in quite a while.
