What can I say ? This is classic Hollywood and a classic movie !

For the 50's generation how can you go wrong ? Sidney Poitier, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, all who are some of the all time great actors and actresses.

The movies illustrates social realities and social functions involving love and race among families. I highly recommend this movie.

I bought this as a gift for my daughter - it is one of her favorite movies and we have not been able to locate it. She was thrilled and the move was excellent.

  The greats at work!
Review created: 10/09/09

This is an excellent film that was rather controversial at the time of its release. It touches on the issue of interracial marriage. Katharine Hepburn nearly steals the film in one scene where she brilliantly fires a woman who works for her due to her prejudice. Spencer Tracy proved his aptitude for playing the curmudgeonly grumpy, yet irresistable, father of the future bride with delightful ease. As this was Mr. Tracy's final role before his death only months later, this film is a treasure and a "must own" for all fans of the famed Hepburn-Tracy pairing.

  Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

In this movie, the ty of star quality acting is superb. Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn and Sidney Portier, to name a few are exceptional actors.
It addressed the issue of non-racism in a cute, light-hearted, yet, at sometimes serious manner. Which, once upon a time, was a deeply controversial issue of inter-racial marriage. Which, today, is different.
It is also a reminder of human foibles, and needing to practice, and live by what we preach.
This movie is also very thought provoking.
What I didn't like is there is no sequal.

  Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

I have always enjoyed this classic movie and wanted to own a copy of it, to eliminate checking out from the library or renting it. I have always enjoyed Kathryn Hepburn's preformances in all her movies. Since it was Spenser Tracy's last movie, it makes very special since Kathryn Hepburn talked the producers into getting Tracy in the leading role in a final attempt to save his life from severe alcoholism that ultimately claimed his life a few weeks later. It has been said, that Hepburn was never able to watch the movie because of his death and her love for him.

The movie is timeless and shows how far we've come
Review created: 10/09/08(updated 10/09/08)

I've seen it over and over and decided to get my own copy. Tracy and Hepburn play roles that no one could copy. They had a style that you won't ever see again.

One of the finest films of all time

This movie is without a doubt one of the greatest movies of all time.
It has three of the best actors/ actress the film world has ever seen.
Katharine Hepburn, as always is Exquisite, and Spencer tracy is unequaled.
and as this was his last film, this should be in everyones collection.
Also in this film is another of my favorite actors, the always great
Sidney Poitier. It is a film about one of the our worst human traits
racial prejudice. It shows in very funny format just how ridiculous unfounded
opinions can be. the daughter of a very wealthy businessman brings her fiance
home to meet the folks, except she forgot to mention he is black. he's a very prominent doctor with several high level degrees and prominence in the medical world. along the way his parents show up, and again were not told that his fiance was extremely white. The ensuing dinner party will bring you to tears for 2 reasons, first the comedy is overwhelming, and then the dialog and the gradual realization that all the forgone beliefs were just plain STUPID will make you tear up and smile from ear to ear all at the same time.
THIS is one movie that I believe should be required for all people of all ages to see at least once.
After watching this movie 3 times in one week on the cable, I realized that I only had it on vhs....not, I immediatly headed for Ebay to add it to my DVD collection, and unfortunately they asked me to review it for you. I hope this will make you jump on a copy also. It really is a must see for all people.

Every actor was superb in this movie but hands down, Spencer Tracy delivers a speech that is powerful. I will never forget it. Overall, this movies shows how we are when humans are faced with our fears. Some will get through them or live with the fears. One thing one can realize WE are really the fear that gets in the way!

  Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

This is one of my most favorite films of all time, and Spencer and Katharine's last film, (and days, actually) together. He died before it came out in the theaters. Rumor has it that Katharine never watched the film because the pain would be too unbearable. Great movie, great DVD Quality. I can not be more pleased.

  guess who's coming to dinner?
Review created: 07/02/06

If you like good movies this is the one for you. Not only is the writing, acting, and directing above (way above) standard even by today's methods its story line is revelent, even in todays permissive society society. And besides it has the great Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy (in his last role)

It is a story on race and the eradication of discrination. I love the role played by Katharine Hepburn. She is my heroine of the film.I bought the film several years ago, and have been watching it almost every week, until somebody came to my house and took it away. I will love to have it again.
