The Grudge 3 has intensity that draws my attention.Just the way the bodys move and make that wierd noise, but I find myself still trying to say to the victims to get up and run as they just stay where they are just to wait for thier fate.I would watch this movie again.

  Impressive entry.

I'm a fan of 'The Grudge' series, and while the first two had impressive box office pulls you'd struggle to find a soul that appreciates them. I am one of the few of whom admit an open admiration. What drew me into a fandom was the series' ability to produce effective scares, suspense, and an onslaught of impending doom. Not many films have effectively managed a sense of coming dread, but I always felt the series managed that well. I also really enjoyed the mixed stories, and especially in 'The Grudge 2', where we have multiple characters in multiple times (unbeknown to us of course) explaining the situation and how we got to where we are in this chapter. I genuinely loved it knowing we have a thoughtful script. I've never been confused by the genre because I have the blessing of an attention span. Sorry, had to make that quirp. Now, moving onto the third entry things have taken a turn. 'The Grudge' had full studio faith, a good budget, and star power. 'The Grudge 2' was equivelant. Both rushing to theaters and both crushing the competition. 'The Grudge 3' was quickly announced and then...nothing. 2 years later it winds up on DVD shelves bypassing theaters. One may wonder why the studio just gave up and didn't attempt to put the appropriate muscle behind it? I'll admit I'm disappointed that the potential of the series has been quickly thwarted to the store shelves where quality isn't a requirement, but I'll take what I can get.

'The Grudge 3' picks up within the week of the events of 'The Grudge 2' with the return of the sole survivor of the Chicago massacre being hospitalized. He's aged a few years, but we can look past that since he's the only physical presence connecting the sequels. His psychiatrist, and 'Saw' series staple, Shawnee Smith pursues an investigation of the aparment complex that is now nearly abandoned to perhaps validate Kevin's claims of Kayoko. The last two groups of tenants struggle to keep the apartment lively despite what just occurred, and soon find that the curse is coming for them as well.

Despite the lowered budget and lack of studio support, 'The Grudge 3' still maintains the tradition of multiple characters. The frills are minimal, but the film is still able to pull some genuinely effective and original scares. The Ju-on myth is expanded upon slightly with Kayoko's sister now attempting to exercise the curse from the living world; they keep wetting our lips with facts so we'll want more and buy another sequel. I don't mind however.

'The Grudge 3' has its share of features, with a handful of deleted scenes that are brief and don't add anything to the story and a featurette describing the connections from sequel to sequel. I mostly found interesting the Tokyagoria feature that shows how the crew used original blueprints from the second film and recreated the entire Chicago apartment set in Bulgaria, as well as some Tokyo scenes. Bulgaria doubled for Chicago and Tokyo with only establishing shots on location. And with that in mind they did a very good job at recreation.

I can easily recomend 'The Grudge 3'. While scaled down in ambition, the film is executed with care and is still able to stay in 'The Grudge' lore by providing thought out stories, interwoven characters, and excellent scares.

  Great follow up

This is a great follow up but I wish it remained with the original Japanese Director. The movie was OK but I guess I am too much of a purist.

Third Time Not THE Charm, BUT Still Okay
Review created: 05/29/09

Not as good as the first two because it is obvious that some of the cast members have been changed, but a passable movie regardless.

I hope this is the final Grudge movie to many Grudge movies, even though it was a pretty good movie like usual scary at some parts and suspenseful in some parts.
