Previously shelved due to label difficulties, Metric's debut, GROW UP AND BLOW AWAY, finally received an official release in 2007 on the Last Gang label. Impressively, the album is much more than a curiosity for diehard fans of the Canadian indie-pop act, actually holding its own with the band's later work, particularly the subsequent OLD WORLD UNDERGROUND, WHERE ARE YOU NOW? ('03). Among the many highlights of the record are the title track and "On the Sly," highly melodic keyboard-driven tunes laced with spare beats that leave plenty of room for vocalist Emily Haines's breathy coo. Truly an uncovered gem, GROW UP surpasses mere juvenilia status, comfortably easing its way back into Metric's remarkably consistent catalogue.
