Grip of the Shadow Plague by Brandon Mull (2008, Hardcover)

I started reading the fablehaven series because my son was having trouble passing his Accelerated reading tests in school. This book was worth lots of points and if he didn't pass the test he was not going to make his goal for the marking period. So I read it in order to quiz him on the book for the test. Of course after I read the book I was hooked on the series. My son hasn't read book 2 or book 3 in the series but I have and I have really enjoyed them. I love Harry Potter, Eragon, and even the twilight series. This is a very creative author and I would recommend this book to individuals who want a fast and fun read. The children characters are so likeable you route for them.

I had gotten all the Fablehaven books for my grandson. It is a excellent young Reader series. I even read them, and found them to be a fun read.

I instantly fell in love with the two main charachters, Kendra and Seth... one a straight forward, go-by-the-rules girl Kendra (unlike me) and her younger brother Seth, whose wayward approach to rule-bending was so much like my own in my youth! Pair that with an absolutely believable fantasy world living right next-door to your own and you have an INSTANT best seller. This is writing for young adults on the same scale as Jules Verne, Iassac Asimov, Piers Anthony, and Anne McCaffrey rolled into one. I can see the influences of the saga telling like mr. Verne, and the captivating characters of Anthony, yet see the emotional side of them that is truly the own author's work of an imaginary world that I long to be in whenever I pick up a story of his!

I loved the books so much that I donated the trilogy now available in print to my local library. We have less than 3,000 people in our village. I want EVERY child to ....
