Greendale [CD & DVD] by Neil Young (CD, Aug-2003, Reprise)

I have owned the CD since its release and always enjoyed the funky story about the made up (or not so made up) town of Greendale (I believe many of the characters are not far removed from Neil's own life).

I bought this CD because of the addition of the DVD live performance from Vicar Street (I think it's in Scotland or Ireland). I enjoyed hearing Neil perform Greendale before a live audience as well as hear his explaination of the story. I would recomend the movie "Greendale" as well if you are a fan of Neil Young. If you don't like Neil, than you will probably hate the movie. The music, as all of Neil's does, reflects his style of choice for whatever period he is in. This is a fun album and story.

Wonderful stuff. Neil is always willing to try new sounds. Tells a interesting little story throughout the CD.

I LOVED this beautiful, very meaningful tale set to song that only Neil Young could do. It is different, refreshing, & really makes you think. He's on stage with just his guitars, harmonica, & an organ, which makes you feel like he is telling his story directly to you. He's relaxed, candid, & believes in what he is saying. It's a set, one DVD & one CD. Both are TOPS! I really didn't know what to expect when I put the DVD in the player, but was instantly captivated by what was so delightfully & very thoughtfully, presented before me. I felt like I was in Greendale. A slightly different side of Neil, but knowing him, I long ago learned to expect surprises. I bought it because I knew it was different, & I couldn't wait to see what it really was. If Neil Young does it, I want it. Set aside some quiet time & watch & hear this wonderful set. Worth every penny, I would buy it again in a heartbeat. A Fan from the beginning, I soon found I had discovered an extraordinary treasure & have never looked back. Ever evolving, always the best, Greendale only further proves what a true Master Neil Young really is. Buy it. You'll be glad you did.

Awesome CD and bonus live DVD. I highly recommend checking out the movie Neil did for this as well (unfortunately it is not included. They should have made it a 3 disc set instead of 2). This is a concept album about a family who gets in trouble with the police, FBI, etc. as they set out to save the world. Amazing stuff!

great concept cd ny crazy horse really rock. the bonus dvd of him solo live is quite interesting, what a story teller!
