The Green Pharmacy by Alice Feinstein, James A. Duke, Michael Castleman (1997, Hardcover)

If you are looking for a comprehensive herbal reference book, this is it. The author speaks from his own experience and results he has personally seen. The information is comprehensive and delivered in a very readable manner. Each physical condition is discussed, followed by practical advice and relevant herbal remedies involving everything from common food items to unusual Amazonian herbs. This book comes as a change from the usual Herb and it's uses format. I did find that he left out a few known remedies such as nasturtium as an antibiotic and yarrow for pain.

I highly recommend The Green Pharmacy for anyone interested in starting out with herbal remedies or extending your own knowledge base. Regardless of your level of knowledge, you are bound to learn something new.

I have 3 major (in my life) herb books I depend on mostly now and this is one of them. I do 3 major "reads" on any herb I take. This information is dependable and covers just about anything I'd need to read up on.

Okay, so it's not all herbs. Dr. Duke focuses on the healing power of foods, as well as traditional herbal medicine. That's part of the reason I love this book! It's very easy to read, entertaining even, with a great concordance for easy reference. It is not exhaustive by any means, but I wouldn't consider my herbal library complete without this book.

This book is great for the beginner in "alternative healing"and those who have been using alternative medicine and healing for years.
It is full of valuable information that can be used by all to cure common everyday ailments and conditions and those that are a little more complex.
I have been working with alternative remedies for many years and this is one of the best sources I have found.

The book I purchased was in great condition. The seller responded very quickly, almost imedetily after I made the purchase. However the shipping time of the product was longer then I expected. All around good seller and I would recommend to friends.

I had bought 'The Green Pharmacy' some time ago for my son and had forgotten about it. One night this summer I picked the book up at my son's house and started scanning through it. What an excellent, well-written book aiding one in natural healing. I went home and bought it on Ebay the next day.

I love this book. I use it as a quick reference book. The author gives you information to increase your knowledge of the latest developments in the use of plants for medicinal purposes. I have many herbal books and I love this one best. I think the author did a great job. It is well organized, easy to read and understand. He has a fun personality.

My brother found a copy in mint condition at a garage sale as he was trying to find natural remedies for his high blood pressure & cholesterol. He was able to significantly lower his blood pressure with info he found in the book so that he did not have to start taking pills. His excitement about the book made me check ebay for a good deal which I found. I'm already finding answers to various medical issues to which I have been searching for answers.

i liked it a lot...very helpful in determining when to use (or not use) different herbs. the author knows his material well having spent many years studying herbs in south america and here in the u.s. highly recommend for anyone interested in self-treating with herbs.

This book gives an overview of Dr. Duke's career collecting, categorizing & amassing an herbal database over the 30 years with the Department of Health/ & other entities. The database's address is clearly given & you can go there for more intensive information on any herb that you can think of from North & South American in particular. Dr. Duke's book then goes on to explain about many herbs that can help various ailments which are alphabetized in the book. The herbs listed are listed by how they work to heal that particular ailment or affliction. From herbs that help aging to herbs that help heal wounds, warts & viruses. The herbs & spices listed go from completely eradicating the ailment to those that have certain chemicals that can help heal the ailment. He also includes recipes that he has established over the years that work for him & his friends. Dr. Duke has been on many panels & committees for the government & also has appeared with most of the healers of today, including Dr. Weil et al. Its a fascinating book & I now have 4 in circulation at my work along with keeping my own well thumbed source book for answering herbal questions for over 10 years of my own 28 year old business in herbal supplements. Easy to read, excellent information & if you don't mind using snail mail, you can still write to Dr. Duke for help in finding stuff that you might not have seen in the book. Dr. Duke has several other books out dealing with other ailments & specifics like aging & growing older. Its a good read & a keeper in my library. admin3pii
