The Green Berets

In a classic war movie during the Vietnam War, John Wayne plays the part of
Gung-ho Army Col. Mike Kirby. This movie is kind of divided into two segments
the first, dealing with Col Kirby taking command of a firebase in Vietnam and
commanding a Green Beret Alpha team or advisor team that oversees the base
that is manned by mostly Vietnamese troops. This segment shows the workings
of the team and an assault by Viet Cong / North Vietnamese army to destroy
the base and take over the near-by areas. In this segment David Janssen (Tv
series The Fugitive) co-stars as a skeptical reporter that accompanies Kirby
on a mission and during the assault on the firebase. Good action ensues in
the fight for the base. The second segment of the movie, is more of an undercover mission to kidnap an enemy general, and while a bit slower than
the opening segment, is good enough. Although there are a few visable flaws
such as the pine trees and oaks being in Vietnam, the action is typical Wayne,
who also directed the film which was a big success-despite its hawkish stand-
at the box office. GREAT classic movie, that war movie lovers need in their
collections.
