Album Notes In a Mozart survey, you would certainly want some of the beautiful sacred vocal music, such as the Lacrimosa from the Requiem or the lovely Ave verum corpus, and of course some glorious pieces from the operas, such as "Là ci darem la mano" from 'Don Giovanni,' the exquisite trio "Soave sia il vento" from 'Cosi fan tutte' or the Queen of the Night's spectacular aria from 'The Magic Flute.' Ah, but then you must have some movements from the concertos, where the instruments are made to sing like characters in their own imaginary operas, such as the serene Andante from the C major Piano Concerto, the melting Andantino from the Concerto for Flute and Harp, or the jolly Rondo from the E flat major Horn Concerto, and one would not want to neglect the urgent calling of the great G minor Symphony's opening or the "Jupiter" Symphony's majestic finale, not to mention the nervous scurrying of the 'Marriage of Figaro' Overture or the blissful repose of the Adagio from the B flat major Serenade (the piece that made Salieri faint in AMADEUS). All of that, and lots more, is here in this set, performed by a stellar roster of artists from the Decca catalog, giving you what might be called THE GREATEST MOZART SHOW ON EARTH.
